Whew, it sounds as if it was less painful than imagined. It is amazing how creatures all know exactly what to do. Of course, I'm very grateful now that I'm not a dog...ewwww!!!!
Again Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!! So, I guess now you're a grandpa?

Snow girl has done well....They are so adorable.....
Where the heck was I to miss this beautiful birth? Sorry I am late to the party, Joe. I liked how you tenderly explained the birthing process, of which I know little about. I have never had a dog, at least not yet. Congrats to you and the Monster. Thanks for letting our share life with you.

Beautiful birthing story....beautiful picture. I love the smell of new puppies' breath....when you hold them up to give them little nuzzles those first few days or week or so....I don't know what it is...but they all have it. And the softness of them....and their little full tummies.....ohhhhhh, dang! I want a puppy!

Cute puppies! Years ago, I had a Siamese cat that would ONLY give birth in my lap! I used left-over baby crib pads that were rubber with layers of flannel on each side. And you are so right...it can only be Divine Guidance that directs these animals to know what to do.

Oh, Joe Love, blessings to you and Monster. Congratulations!
There is something simply beautiful about those natural instincts that kick in so that life may proceed. Though a "visual" of what your baby had to do sends me running, face first, to a garbage pale, the fact that four little puppies made it in to the world touches my heart.
In eighth grade, my cat gave birth on my bed, while I was sleeping. I didn't appreciate what was actually occuring then. I woke up to the sound of her dining on, well, the sak. Can you say, "Icky". However, after child birth and witnessing several pets bring litters into the world I find the process fascinating. I'm so happy for you. I'm so happy you and Monster experienced this. Enjoy, my friend! Will you be naming them?

I'm happy that everything went well....
I agree with your take on God's providing instints to animals to carry on their species. Funny, us higher animals are the ones who can get lost along the way. I speak for myself in that when I had my son, I'd read every part of the books I'd purchased except the part about delivery. My son came early (as if that's any excuse). Anyway, the doctor had to stop me when I was delivering. If he hadn't, I'd have done myself some serious harm. He said "Push as if you're having a bowel movement." I can tell you that was not what I was doing.
Shame on me and Yuck to eating afterbirth! Boy am I glad we don't have to do that.

Braunsweiger?! I was just telling my team leader yesterday, at work, about how much I like braunsweiger. He asked me what it tasted like.
I'll get him to contact you for an expaination!

Well, well, well...
...So they're all present and accounted for... Way to go, Poppa Joe! You must be exhausted. And the mom's probably a little tired, too...haha. And hungry... I remember on one of the occasions when I saw pups being born, the mom was starving afterwards and helped herself to the BLT I was holding in my hand while kneeling next to her. I'm not surprised to hear you didn't need the Walmart goods; it's such an efficient process by itself. You touched on one good example - the mother nudging the pups to make them breathe. Similar to the docs slapping a baby for the same reason.... By the way, you're going to hear a lot of squeaking for the next few weeks
