Ashes and Diamonds

I just heard that you can have the ashes of your loved one made into a diamond. Imagine: you meet a lady and admire her diamond ring and she replies: "Thanks very much, It's actually my dad." Now what do you reply to that? Or a man's cuff links? Or dress shirt studs? Or.... Sign in to see full entry.

The writing on the Sky

When I opened my eyes this morning it was still dark- but then again, not, because a violent tropical thunderstorm was raging. I got up and made a bee line to my laptop to share with you some thoughts all that thunder and lightening provoked. Every time I watch a thunderstorm, particularly of the... Why can't they leave alone?

I have many good friends in various countries of the world. Male, female, couples, singles from all ways of life and a variety of ages and professions. I love them all, but one thing they all have in common irks me. They try to convince me, that I should learn how to cook. They buy me cook books,... Sign in to see full entry.

choices

A man in a Rolls Royce pulls up to a petrol station. When the assistant comes out to fill her up, he can't help but notice that a penguin is sitting in the back seat. Curious he says: "Excuse me sir, but what are you doing with a penguin?" The man shrugs and replies: "I really haven't decided yet."... Sign in to see full entry.

Talking parallel

My neighbor is a nice person- I think. I know she has a lot of problems, among them an obnoxious husband she would like to chuck in the sea but can't and several other things. She is also quite lonely, because many people in the community have given up talking to her, because of her habit of... Sign in to see full entry.

English, English? part 4

Here is another tidbit, again related to the Spanish language. My Cuban friends call each other mi amor, which is nice. However, to my ears, the way they pronounced it, it sounded like "mamon", which means idiot. I thought that a very strange endearment, until I decided to raise the subject and ask.... English, English? Part3

You seem to enjoy my little language melee, so here is another morcel. It's not only the English which is different, but the Spanish as well. The word used for car in Miami is carro, which in Spain Spanish mean a horse-drawn carriage. Can you imagine my face, when my Cuban friends happily announced... Sign in to see full entry.

English, English? Part 2

I see, you like, so here is another titbit. At least language-wise, Miami is NOT America. Spanish is the tongue of the day. Fortunately, I am fluent in that idiom, which is a great help in everyday life. As I said, my new pad needs just about everything, so the other day I went to CVS to buy a... English, English?

This is the first year that I spend several months in Miami. I have of course visited the United States on several occasions and I know that English English is different from American English. Spelling is different, autumn is called fall and so on. But living here now every day makes me aware of... Sign in to see full entry.
