Two bits for y'all

1. Maybe they might introduce a "comments sniffer" which concentrates a searcher on comments only, for a price. (Heh, heh, heh)..

2. New kid on the block, good storyteller, WonkyWordsMistress.

And a free bit: one of my recent blogs solicits advice about preparing for imminent retirement. You can post it here so I won't feel like I'm trying to lure readers to my posts.

Mahzeltov, y'all.

A wee bit of an idea

I would like to see the "New Comments" link moved from the bottom of the front page to the top, up there with Home, Favorites, etc. I often check the comments, and I must admit that I find it tiresome and a bit off-putting to have to scroll to the bottom of the page every time. Maybe a third line of links there in the top right corner, consisting of "New Posts," "New Comments," and "Today's Top Picks."

Just a thought.....

If you would like to give/recieve writing feedback

go here

my last post had the wrong link, sorry

Bastian Love's Take it or Leave it Commentary

I don't really give a damn who reads my commentary, it's not for everyone. I just hope that when it is read, it is enjoyed. If you have a problem with a present relationship, you may find the answer to a burning question. You may find out why you broke-up with a person in a past relationship. Enjoy your blogging's!

Cool Beans!

I just noticed something that I think is awesome on the part of the BN staff:  If you place your favorite MA blogs into your favorites list, you can not only see that they've been updated, but you can also read the headline and the first-line teaser.  Awesome!

Perhaps others have noticed this beforehand, but I don't read many of the MA blogs simply because the time it takes to click on Everything Else, then click on Mature audiences, THE re-log in before you can finally read something is just too irksome.

Now that I know this little Favorites trick, I'll probably read the MA category more often.

The Not-So-New BN Categories

The BN categories have troubled me since they changed.  Today I realized part of the reason why.  There are blogs places in certain categories that don't really seem to belong in said category.

I propose the Shaycom folks create descriptions for each category--just a couple of sentences--explaining what they think should be placed in that category.  Then, perhaps, the bloggers themselves can more properly choose a category.

Just an idea.

Here's an opportunity

Subject  Call for Submissions // SIX BILLION INTERACTIVE

Designers, storytellers, friends:

I write to commission a story. A compelling, narrative,
interactive story from anywhere in the world -- to be
published in the online magazine Six Billion.

If you haven't seen it yet, I'll tell you the site is unlike any
other: It's not a new media gallery, it's not a photo
magazine, it's not a sound archive, it's not a journal of
nonfiction. Instead, it's all of these, a space where
competing forms of narrative journalism and
documentary are joined into one conversation, where
amateur and professional storytellers alike come to
perfect their craft.

The name, Six Billion, comes from renowned filmmaker
Albert Maysles. When asked if he was frustrated with
the glut of documentary projects and the onslaught of
reality everything, he said: "No. There are six billion
people in the world, and at any given moment, at least
ten thousand of them have a story to tell." With that, the
septuagenarian hoisted camera to shoulder and went
looking for one.

Stories are what Six Billion is all about. As a nonprofit
endeavor, the project aims to exist independently of the
marketplace -- to support, if modestly, free agents like
yourselves who wish they could drop those corporate
clients and spend more time telling stories. Important
stories.

For Issue One, we asked contributors for an "obituary"
-- whether for a person, a village, or a way of life. The
result was a collection of eulogies told by text, comics,
video, sound, photography, and interactive design, from
places as far as Afghanistan and as small as Rhode
Island. See it at http://sixbillion.org.
The organizing principle for Issue Two will be "veterans
of foreign wars." With your stories, tell us what that
means -- and know that our commitment to the
intersection of journalism, documentary, and interactive
design is strong.

The deadline for proposals is July 15. Send a written
pitch with sample images. Point us to stories you've
done in the past. Tell us how the story will be collected:
Will you do it yourself? Will you work with filmmakers,
reporters, writers? Will you work with existing nonfiction
material? Submit a proposed schedule of completion
for your project, and suggest payment for your work,
keeping in mind we are a nonprofit.

Show us what you've got. And keep up the good work.

Sincerely,

Kelly McEvers

Six Billion co-founder

Hey "guys", I love this place!

I don't get out much, true, but where else am I going to find a bunch of writers pounding away at their keyboards with instant sharing....OK, you see, I don't work at a newspaper.  And when I first tried to "Add a Post" I'd gotten hung up when I'd wanted to see a comment and the computer schizoided out on me--but hey! So I had to exit and re-logon--so what?  That's a minor problem compared to not being able to see all you guys and gals every day, and having this hungry keyboard calling to me every single day....OK--I'll go take a break now.  Later Gater!

Sometimes Crabby would like to ask the BN owners if 'this' is what they had

in mind when they started the 'network'. Real-time News indeed.... more like Realtime Bored writers all in a fight to be top-blog.... but hey... Crabby has no room to complain... just an observation.

Headlines (What is this?)
