Flag Burning Part II: Nose Cutting and Face Spiting

I am not writing this to rebutt what I said yesterday. I still think that a constitutional amendment banning flag desecration is a bad idea and for the reasons I stated in yesterday's post. I don't particularly care for the PATRIOT Act. But I guess that's mostly an unqualified emotional response. I... Sign in to see full entry.

Scarecrow With Wheels

There is a person driving around the three adjacent parking lots here with a halogen spotlight and an air horn trying to scare off the birds. At a certain point they also shoot off some sort of cherry bomb projectile thing into the trees. I think it mostly annoys the birds rather than scares them.... Sign in to see full entry.

Now I just need a couple of bat-arangs, that cool ass car, and Nicole Kidma

On my belt right now I have a camera, a PDA, a cellphone, and a flashlight and knife. I think I'm going to challenge Christian Bale for the next Batman role. Sign in to see full entry.

What If They Had The Flag Burning And Nobody Came?

Back in 1990 there was a Klan march on a town in Missouri. The mayor went around and talked to the business owners, so when the Klansmen showed up there was nobody around. The same could apply to flag burnings and other specious forms of "free" "speech". Flag burning is an interesting form of mental... Sign in to see full entry.

Art Student Hangs Out With Town Bad Boy

It was twenty years ago this summer, and probably right about this time in July. I was in Lower Galilee, Israel on an archaeological dig. The known bad boy on my crew was an art major at UT. Being accustomed to not following rules and not having anyone challenge him on it, he started hanging out... Sign in to see full entry.

SCAM

Last week I signed on with Match.com. I got an email from someone who gave me a yahoo email address and didn't have a profile. Actually I've emails ostensibly from two people like that. Okay one is from Russia and the other from Ghana. The one from Russia sent me a couple of pictures of a girl who... Sign in to see full entry.

A Dose of Deja Vu

I heard back from my friend Paul in England. He was on the #30 bus which was blown up on the same round last week. He's doesn't seem as bothered by it as we are. I guess it's more a part of their experience. Sign in to see full entry.

Unbelievably Bad Taste

Terrorist bombs just went off yesterday in London. This morning, the History Channel showed the Columbine documentary followed by the 9-11 flight documentary about American Airlines. So much for automated programming. Sign in to see full entry.

Taking a day off

I have decided to get some much needed rest today instead of trotting down the trail for 2 hours. I know the withdrawal will kick in about noon and I will be feeling guilty about not being out there. But I've been pushing myself hard these last few weeks and I need to let the tissues have some time... Sign in to see full entry.

A Modicum of Attention

If I had just paid a little attention to the news, I would have known something about the bombing in London yesterday. I didn't even turn on my TV today and no one mentioned it in my diet class. I saw a one line excerpt about it on a blog that just said pray for London. I thought the post had to do... Sign in to see full entry.
