I'm a cockeyed pessimist

When it comes to race relations, I'm a cockeyed pessimist. I don't really think we will ever see a time when blacks and whites will live together. Why is that? Well, the truth is that I'm sitting here in a predominantly Mexican neighborhood by choice, and I'm one of a handful of Anglos living here... Sign in to see full entry.

I'm bored, bored, bored, bored... I'm in PAIN!

I adapted the title from a Garfield comic strip. Next month is Garfield's 25th anniversary - June 16 of next month, as a matter of fact. Muncie, Indiana - the official home of Garfield's amanuensis and cartoonist, Jim Davis - will be having a huge shindig form June 19 to June 21. To obtain... Sign in to see full entry.

Strange world, isn't it?

Recently, I was watching a CNN program hosted by Jeff Greenfield, about 80 days on which historically-significant events happened. One of those days was a day in June 1972: the day of the Watergate break-in. Greenfield used the events of that day as an excuse of sorts, to examine the historical... Sign in to see full entry.

Let's beat up on the victims some more, shall we?

By now, if you watch the news, you've heard of a rather nasty hazing incident that happened in my neck of the woods - Glenbrook North in Northbrook, as a matter of fact. A team of senior girls engaged a team of junior girls in a very abusive hazing incident in a Chicago-area forest preserve. Several... Sign in to see full entry.

Hmmm.....

I was just thinking while sitting here reading, and I was wondering whether this idea would fly. Many people here post on BN itself - as if it were a separate topic all its own. Why not do travel reviews instead? What do you think people would enjoy seeing if they were to come visit your neck of the... Sign in to see full entry.

Looks like, waddles like, quacks like, is

How many of you can figure out just what I'm talking about based only on the title? I'll give you the answer, so you don't have to waste precious time figuring out what I'm talking about. If it looks like, waddles like and sounds or quacks like a duck, it's a duck - bet the ranch on it. It's a... Sign in to see full entry.

Brunch at Pricey Pricey

Pricey Pricey is my generic term for extremely fancy restaurants that charge high prices (hence the name Pricey Pricey) without necessarily delivering good value for the money. (My husband's name for the same type of restaurant is Fancy Schmancy, and this shall be the name of the fictional... Sign in to see full entry.

Boogie to Baghdad Bob!

Many of us may remember the PR minister for the Iraqi government; I don't remember his name, just his nickname - Comical Ali. He was known for his propensity for telling the most extreme political lies in the name of the Iraqi government, and doing his job in such a way that people on both sides of... Recent writing prompt: Body Odor

How's that to get the controversy going? Let's see if what I have to say does anything for my rankings (yes, I do care, if you want to know). As usual, everything from the headline on down is the prompt. Body Odor There are a number of causes of good old BO. The most familiar is poor hygiene - you... Sign in to see full entry.

Let's try this again, folks

Yesterday, I tried to post something about the reality programming which seemingly has invaded every television set in America - except mine, the only exception being the first The Bachelor series (starring Alex Michel looking for a potential bride-to-be). I was wondering if anyone here had indulged... Sign in to see full entry.
