I think that someone has been lying to me, about oil refining.

How do petroleum refiners get more gallons of oil products out of a forty gallon barrel of oil, than the original forty gallons? Refiners produce gasoline, kerosene, solvents, lubricating oils, greases, waxes, chemicals, and who knows what else from crude oil, and I am told that the total of all these products is more gallons than they originally started with. HUH? How is this possible? If I were to start with five gallons of grape juice, and made wine with it, assuming that no water was added,... Sign in to see full entry.
