Blogit upgrade: comment reporting system, calling cards, and more!

Comment reporting system

It’s wonderful when someone reads a blog entry and leaves a thoughtful comment. This is an important part of what makes Blogit a great place to be.

What isn’t so good is when someone leaves a comment such as “Nice post” or just a rose on ten different blog entries within a short period of time. It’s obvious that the person is spamming the comment section and pretending that they read each author’s work when they didn’t.

We now have a new “Report abuse” link next to every comment that makes it easy for readers to notify us of such comments. This is part of a new comment reporting system that allows us to track, review and remove inappropriate comments more quickly.

If someone posts a lot of comments that have to be removed, his or her commenting privileges will be temporarily switched off for 1 day. If it happens again, the privileges will be switched off for 2 days, and so on.

Calling cards

Of course, there are times when you read an author’s work and don’t have anything to say, but still want to let the author know that you read them.

Most blogs will now have a new “Leave calling card” link under each entry, which makes this simple to do. To view calling cards left on your blogs, please go to your Write page and click “View calling cards”.

(If you have the Gold plan and are using an advanced template, learn how to add this feature; if you are a Classic subscriber using a Classic custom template, this new feature is not supported.)

And more…

There are now new emoticons available – which may be used in blogs, items, comments and calling cards – and you may choose not to display your earnings on your member profile by going to My Account and clicking “View or change preferences”.
