THE PLACE OF FAMILY
My work, particularly my art work, always took precedent over my family. I loved my daughter and I included her in all aspects of my life, but ultimately I made choices that circumvented my family's needs. The bunch I bought for RG a few days ago is turning brown. It won't matter to him. He loves bananas. He eats at least one every day. My Grandfather loved bananas too. We both like Arlo and Janis, the comic strip by Jimmy Johnson. Some mornings RG has already cut it out of the paper and left it for me next to my coffee cup. Dad's Day, giving in to Hallmark
My first impetus is to call my son-in-law to wish him a happy Father's Day. Having been instrumental in turning my daughter into a mother and me now a first time grandmother I thought he deserved recognition for that feat. But I hesitate. THE CAT LADY
On the bus to work Friday. One stop before mine in Watertown square a well dressed, bleached blond, middle aged woman, who looks slightly familiar is trying to exit the bus.
