Another Great Book by CS Lewis

This book is a very deep and thought-provoking examination of the role that pain and suffering play in the world. If it is read carefully and with reflection adequate to ensure full understanding of the author's theses, premises, and conclusions, The Problem of Pain provides an excellent answer to... Want to Turn Your Brain on End?

This little gem, which I am re-reading for the eight or ninth time, is a great mind-bender. Primarily because it's a book about Christianity, but it's written from the point of view of a demon in Hell. So you have to constantly remind yourself that when the demon says "The Enemy" he means G-d, and... Sign in to see full entry.

Awesome Kids' Book

Back in June, I found a bunch of books that people had tossed in the trash, and I rescued them all and brought them home to love them. In that stash, I was delighted to find this book, which I remember from my childhood and loved. Dangerous Island, by Helen Mather-Smith Mindlin, is an excellent... Sign in to see full entry.

Reviewing Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the Movie

The newest Harry Potter movie had a few hitches as it was being made, not least of which was the unhappy death of the actor playing Professor Albus Dumbledore. Richard Harris truly brought this character to life; his portrayal was accurate to the last gesture --- as most of Richard Harris's... Sign in to see full entry.

The World Has Lost a Great Man Today

I am deeply saddened to learn that Dr. Adrian Rogers, Pastor Emeritus of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee, has left this world, but I rejoice to know that he is in the presence of the Lord and Saviour whom he loved so dearly. When I was a young child, we attended Bellevue Baptist Church... Sign in to see full entry.

A Great Kid's Storybook!

We checked this one out of the library, and the kids were spellbound by the beautiful and detailed drawings accented with lots of gold. The Firebird by Demi. This is a lovely Russian fairy tale, complete with the evil old Tsar and the beautiful fairy princess. But trouble starts when the handsome... Sign in to see full entry.

What "Finding Nemo" Means

This was a great movie. Not a run-of-the-mill kid's film by any stretch of the imagination. A truly great kid's film. The plot is simple. A mother clownfish is killed while trying to save her eggs from a barracuda. The father clownfish finds only one of the eggs left, and from it comes Nemo. Nemo's... Sign in to see full entry.

I Wish I Were Jean Kerr

Jean Kerr would have made a great blogger. Her stories are short, to the point, and lose-control funny. If her stuff weren't still under copyright, I'd blog it (with her name on it, of course) and make a million. If you haven't read her books, you should. She's easier to identify with than Erma...
