Friends

Every day be thankful for what you have and who you are. This is a simple request. If you appreciate life, send this to your friends, including the person that sent it to you. Even though I clutch my blanket and growl when the alarm rings. Thank you, Lord, that I can hear. There are many who are deaf. Even though I keep my eyes closed against the morning light as long as possible. Thank you, Lord, that I can see. Many are blind. Even though I huddle in my bed and put off rising. Thank you, Lord,... Sign in to see full entry.

Character

"Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved." ~ Helen Keller ~ Sign in to see full entry.

You Are Very Special

I dedicate this message to my husband. Sometimes we just need to be reminded! You are very Special. A well-known speaker started off his seminar by: holding up a $20.00 bill. In the room of 200, he asked, "Who would like this $20 bill?" Hands started going up. He said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this. He proceeded to crumple up the $20 dollar bill. He then asked, "Who still wants it?" Still the hands were up in the air. Well, he replied, "What if I do... Sign in to see full entry.

Naughty Nick #2

A few weeks ago, I wrote a story about my son. I had choir practice every Thursday night. Nick's daddy, also known as my husband, Jay, had to babysit both of our children every Thursday night. That month, there was an incident every Thursday night, involving 4 year old Nick. The first incident was when he threw a stick at a passing car and had to face the consequence of such actions. The second incident happened in our downstairs, where our "Photography Studio" was located. Jay was working with... Sign in to see full entry.

We Got It Backwards!

These are not my original thoughts, but they made me think about the whole cycle of creation. I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should start out dead and get it out of the way. Then, you wake up in an old age home feeling better every day. You get kicked out for being too healthy; go collect your pension, then when you start work, you get a gold watch on your first day. You work 40 years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You drink alcohol, you party, you're generally... Sign in to see full entry.

Breakfast at McDonald's

I wish I could say I wrote the following because this is MY kind of story. It was chain-mailed out to me today. I thought you might enjoy it! This is NOT my story, keep in mind. But it emanates the smiles I am famous for! http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n78/rgerhardstein/oldtoothlessman.jpg I am a mother of three (ages 14, 12, 3) and have recently completed my college degree. The last class I had to take was Sociology. The teacher was absolutely inspiring with the qualities that I wish every... Sign in to see full entry.

Naughty Nick #1

At last week's Birthday Party for baby Ryen I have read "The Brick" a few times before. It reminded me of an incident that took place years ago, on a Thursday when 4.10-year-old Nick's year old Mommy was at Church Choir Practice. Nick's Daddy had to babysit both of our children every Thursday night. It was the first Thursday of May when weather was beautiful. Nick was outside, playing with an older kid across the street. Daddy could watch him from the front window. His Daddy saw the whole thing... Sign in to see full entry.

Five bucks and sixty-one cents

I couldn't believe it! But yes, I could. Was I any kind of loyal and faithful follower of faith than to doubt that God would provide, as he has always promised? He knew the exact price. He knew how much spare change I had. This was no coincidence. But who would believe me, I wondered, as I walked away from the check-out line at the grocer's. When I pulled into the grocery store lot, I was wondering what I would prepare for our dinner. I squirmed a little, well a LOT, when I thought about writing... Sign in to see full entry.

Blessings of an Illness

(A reprint of a blog written 07-05-05; published on blogtext.org/ccwriter71) I live in Leavenworth, Kansas, a river-bluffed, historic old river town in the northeast corner of the state. The most beautiful time of the year is autumn, when this part of the Mid-West grows into a New England, autumnal splendor about mid-October. It is not flat, as one would imagine Kansas to be. We have rolling hills, dotted with maple trees galore with plenty of oaks, sycamore, cottonwood, hackberry, all of which... Sign in to see full entry.

Coinage Conspiracy?

I just read a blog about a conspiracy to take "IN GOD WE TRUST" off the newest dollar coin being minted. I read several reactionary comments before someone said, "Look it up on Snopes." Urban mythism strikes again. I found it interesting how many Christians fear extinction! If you could smell the fear being expressed by those few bloggers, the page was reeking. I, for one, feel a spiritual awareness building in this country, and let's pray it is a worldwide movement. When Americans or any... Sign in to see full entry.

Comfort in a Yellow Shirt

(This is a story from the Tony Robbins, inspirational speaker, collection. I thought you would enjoy it as much as I. ) The yellow shirt had long sleeves, four extra-large pockets trimmed in black thread and snaps up the front. It was faded from years of wear, but still in decent shape. I found it in 1963 when I was home from college on Christmas break, rummaging through bags of clothes Mom intended to give away. "You're not taking that old thing, are you?" Mom said when she saw me packing the... Sign in to see full entry.

Words of Wisdom from Abraham Lincoln

What words of wisdom one can find when cleaning clutter. This yellowed old piece of newspaper had even been laminated, preserving the advise one should remind oneself OF from time to time. From the beloved liberator, Abraham Lincoln, came these thoughts: You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help little men by tearing down big men. You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot... Sign in to see full entry.

The Other Woman

"Being a Mother" author Unknown After 21 years of marriage, my wife wanted me to take another woman out to dinner and a movie. She said, "I love you, but I know this other woman loves you and would love to spend some time with you." The other woman that my wife wanted me to visit was my mother, who has been a widow for 19 years. But the demands of my work and my three children had made it possible to visit her only occasionally. That night, I called to invite her to go out for dinner and a... Sign in to see full entry.

Rummage Sale

More church bulletin funny stuff (summer 06) "Ladies, don't forget the rummage sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husbands." Boy, that's ONE thing I'm holding onto. HE's one of those priceless objects. But as we've been moving to our new studio downtown, to a space half as big, our already full garage and downstairs is even fuller. Our Son-In-Law quit his job yesterday, so there goes the hopes of their finding an apartment sooner than... Sign in to see full entry.

Worry?

Worry is the darkroom in which negatives can develop. As my husband makes the transition from property owner to renting a space half the size, a 3 year lease, and no guarantees or contracts upcoming, YET, but lots of dreams, goals and hopes as we move the photography studio back downtown. One relief is over in that he is out of the high overhead of ownership. But he worries about whether he can maintain his business. Same old story since 1996 when he quit his 16 year government job (that was... Sign in to see full entry.

Blogger's Prayer for Memorial Day

Dear God... I know you're watching over me and those I love, the rest, No matter what I pray for You always know what's best! I have a group of Blogit friends, Who mean so much to me; Some days I write and read a lot, Sometimes I let them be. I am so blessed to have these friends, With whom I've grown so close; This little poem's all for them, Because they are the "Most"! When I read their kindly words, And comments they have left; I know they've thought of me that day, And "well wishes" were... Sign in to see full entry.
