LUNCH He is quiet at the stove, stirring soup as she completes a puzzle. On the table is her diary: a record of medications taken by the hour and other events of the day. this year has to be different

In the three and a half years I’ve been in this hospital I’ve never taken a full four weeks annual leave. At the beginning of 2004 I took a week off and then used the rest of my leave getting my 100 clinical hours worked for my massage qualification. At the end of last year I knew I needed a decent...
