I had a call

I heard the call to preach. I went to school to learn how. I had a call. I learned to study to rightly divide the word. So that I could preach. I practiced writing sermons and delivering them. I loved to preach. I finished school. Then once a month. I got to preach. But in that church, I was more... Sign in to see full entry.

Warm winter sun

We sat in the warm winter sun outside on the back porch of the Alano club I had my beads, she and he had cigarettes. No smoking inside. But the warm sun made indoors seem dark and gloomy. They love each other confuse each other and frustrate each other. Two lovers too soon to be living together. But... Sign in to see full entry.

Are words sleeping too?

Alone in the night, the writer sits the cold air surrounds and chills. The door cracks the gas fire creiks. Eyes get heavy hands lie still. Words stuck on the edge of my mind. Stubbornly refuse to come. I'm tired. I think I'll go to bed. Sign in to see full entry.

Jesus' Triage

From morning until evening, his mercies never end Throughout the long dark night, his presence covers us. When sorrow upon sorrow floods us with tears. when earthquake, wind and fire batter our poor souls, Jesus walks out upon the water And rows us back to shore. We thought that we couldn’t take... Christmas nights

Early in the morning when it was still dark a little girl, me, wore her Christmas dress and went to church for julatta. She looked up at her older brother, mom and dad who were way up high. Early in the morning when it was still dark the mother, me, and son went to the Lutheran church to worship... Sign in to see full entry.

Christmas wasn't pretty

when Jesus was born. He was born in a stable instead of an inn. Shepherds instead of priests came to worship him. Killers followed the wise men and murdered infants. Christmas isn't pretty when Bethlehem is under seige when Israeli tanks surround Arab houses. When just down the road the American... Sign in to see full entry.

The Cross

When Jesus died on that cruel cross he died for terrorists too. When he cried God forgive them For they know not what they do. he died for Osama and his gang. God didn't send his son just to die for republicans but for democrats, too. He crosses all divisions he breaks down every wall. So when you... Sign in to see full entry.

The shepherd figurine

I was in Goodwill the other day and saw a figurine, with a long dress and long headress I thought, shepherd or terrorist? What would it have been like if instead of a shepherd who came to worship Christ, it had been a member of a terrorist organization. Ridiculous you say. But maybe they would have... An Old Story

We hear again the story of a pregnant woman, a worried man, and a inn without room. It's an old story we've heard so many times before. Then we find ourselves pregnant and wondering what to do. We are worried about our wives as we wait for delivery. We have no money for a bed and put our baby in a... Sign in to see full entry.

Who walks

She walks with grace and speed down the busy street wearing a mohair coat her grandmother could have worn and high heeled boots Cars honk, she ignores them. She causes accidents As they stare and whistle She walks on without fear. An ice princess whose fevered brain looks at evey nuance of the... Sign in to see full entry.
