Painlessly remove a Splinter

Here is another tidbit I found in the same magazine "First"..Wondering if it is really true.. If you get a splinter place a piece of raw onion over the puncture, cover it and leave it for 10 mins the onion causes the splinter to come to the surface so it can easily be removed with tweezers..!
