I looked at the balance in my checking account today and was absolutely shocked at what I saw. I hadn't realized how much money I was spending--money I don't have considering I'm unemployed and have no guaranteed way of making money. Most of what little I have goes towards books and clothes--I've lost a lot of weight over the summer and most of what I wore last winter doesn't fit me now. Over the summer, I spent six weeks in June and July doing a course in publishing at NYU. It's an industry I'd always wanted to go into, and I'd heard about the program through a continuing education board in the English department at my college. I wrote a beautiful, 9-page application (typed, double-spaced), and sent it in by the deadline of March 31st. I heard back a long time before I was supposed to.
