Moving On

There no longer is an addict living in our attic. There are only three and they all live in their own rooms. my daughters share a room. One addict is spending a lot of time with his girlfriend and we seldom see him. The other two are busy with narcotics anonymous and we don't see them much. Life is... Sign in to see full entry.

Who is right and who is wrong.

There is a dispute between two of the recovering addicts of my house. One says the other is lying all the time. The other says the other is paranoid and a pessimist. What do you do in a situation like this. Do I tell one to go and the other stay. I want both of them to stay. For now, that is all... Sign in to see full entry.

Two out of three

I have one housemate who isn't doing well. He got upset about something and disappeared for a week. He now has a medical problem which puts him in a lot of pain. I took him to the doctor and got his prescription for pain medication. I know that he'll want to sleep today and probably the rest of the... Sign in to see full entry.

Watching my roommates change

is wonderful. Two of them are doing very well. They are going to twelve step meetings, making amends, and taking care of business. The other one is keeping clean just. It is easy to see the difference. He is coming out of his shell. I think that he will eventually get the program. It is so much... Sign in to see full entry.

Living with Recovery Addicts

was a challenge at first. Now, it is mostly all right. There isn't much challenge to it anymore. They are doing well. Recovery makes people easier to live with than normal people. They don't believe that they have rights but are grateful for anything given to them. I like challenges and so I'm... Sign in to see full entry.

I think I should change the name of this post

to Living with Addicts. Homelessness is no longer an issue. What is an issue for the men who live with us is addiction. They are in early recovery and need to learn how to deal with life clean and sober. For the most part things are smooth. The only problem is the jealousy between two of them. One... I did something different yesterday.

A fireman called me yesterday about a friend who was drunk. I went to pick her up. My husband was mad that I said that I would pick her up, since she has been nothing but trouble. But I had already promised, so I went. She didn't want anything from me, but I took her to my neigborhood. She didn't... Sign in to see full entry.

The Advantages of Being Incompetent

My husband and I are not handy around the house. I'm not a good housekeeper. Kurt forgets to water the yard. He does have a good job and I've written a book. To people who aren't intellectual we are incompetent. That is good. Homeless addicts feel very bad about themselves. Their only bragging... Sign in to see full entry.

If Someone You Meet Needs a Home

What do you do? I cry inside. If for some reason, I can't bring them home, I pray. I also pray for a bigger house, for more open houses and more people to care. How can we get angry at God for the suffering in the world, if we are unwilling to do anything ourselves. There is enough to go around, if... Sign in to see full entry.

I've Been Stupid

For the last month I've been hearing how stupid I've been. It's starting to irritate me. When we invited a homeless couple, we had no idea how bad drug addiction was. They intended to quit and were tired of using. Julie went into treatment right away and had to get random urine tests up to three... Sign in to see full entry.
