Another home day

The sun is glaring through the back glass door--I've been up since long before the sky grew light, waking early after heading to bed early. It will be another relatively warm day, I am pleased to say. Charlie, however, woke yesterday with a very sore throat. One of his jugger friends reports something similar but with fever and chills and general malaise. Today may involve a trip to Urgent Care to determine if it's strep, or something worse. He has not had the latest covid vaccine yet. It's bad... Sign in to see full entry.

Home again

Pixiechonk seems pleased I'm back where she wants me: When I woke this morning she was, as usual, behind my knees and I could hear her purring! We actually made it from Socorro NM to Colorado Springs in something around 7 hours. The sky was clear all the way to Colorado, and the deep cold eased up through the day from the teens into the 30s. Today we're promised a high of 54! I hope this warming trend moves on across the Midwest to the East today! This morning I processed the first of the trip... Sign in to see full entry.

Sitting in the motel room, figuring out what we can order in for dinner... Charlie's team finished fifth out of thirteen teams, exactly as well as they did at the last big tourney. Their first day was better than that previous outing, taking the team that eventually came in second to a draw, and winning everyone else they played. I am hoping that the Jugger team never sell out to sponsors. Now, the members own and control the team, and that would change if sponsors start paying for their... Sign in to see full entry.

We're there!

Details are in my Adventuring blog--suffice it here to say, we made it to Tempe last night just after dusk, and found this hotel acceptable, but really only in comparison to the one the night before. I do not recommend Motel 6. So far, the high points have been: Finding Raton Pass dry and snow-free. Finding that though I'd left my Lifetime National Parks Pass at home, because I still had the handicap placard showing, the guy at the entrance to Petrified Forest NP could ask if I'm permanently... ... GO!

As posted in my Adventuring blog somewhere around here, the dice are rattling in the cup, to be cast as we head out in about an hour. We have to make a quick stop at the Fire Thieves workshop which is 5 miles south of home, and thence to I-25 towards New Mexico. The weather over Raton Pass looks windy, but we'll be through there before the snow that's expected in the later afternoon. If we'd needed to go anywhere else in the country, it would be worse! I am prepping the house for my friend's... Sign in to see full entry.

Mine!

I collected my new-to-me car this morning! It's a Nissan 'Dentra' so-labeled because of the slight amount of hail damage for which my friend's insurance company called it 'totalled' and gave her money to replace it. The windshield had to be replaced, but the hail dentage is minimal and kind of like having a cool scar. Charlie says the dimples might actually improve mileage, as they do on golf balls. It is, so far, averaging 31mpg, driving in town, and when we drive down to Phoenix the end of... Sign in to see full entry.

It was a good day!

The sun is shining through a frosty haze this morning, and the wind is blowing in great gusts around 30mph. Temperatures are below 20F and are not likely to get much warmer today. This is the leading edge of the severe weather predicted this week for pretty much the whole country east of the Rockies. I hear a can rattling down the street... Yesterday's first meeting of the Feisty Grannies Knitting Circle was a success! My friend Joanne arrived first, and later another knitter joined us. Meri was... Sign in to see full entry.

Dreamtime

Sun is shining, and for the first time in a while, she was up before me this morning. I usually only get 5 or maybe 6 hours of sleep but last night, it was a good solid 8. Partly it was becau se of a dream I was having with an element I was trying to understand, feeling in the dream that it was something I knew, had seen before but could not remember where or why or what it was, and I really wanted to. When I did wake up, it was with the clear awareness that it was nothing but a special effect... Sign in to see full entry.

New Year Changes

Here it is, near time to head out from the workshop to find lunch. In getting ready for Sunday's Feisty Grannies, we have done some re-organizing of various rooms at Fire Thieves, relocating some furnishings and finding new space by re-arrangement of the kitchen area. If the Knitting Circle catches on, or we start having gaming sessions in the parlor, I mean to shift some of my teapots and cups collection from the house to one of the newly-cleared walls. The little roll-top desk will shift down... Sign in to see full entry.

Getting a grip on the New Year

It's 5:30 pm and dark outside, and the thermometer is descending towards a day with snow tomorrow. I've spent all day at home, finishing up a couple of cowl projects and dealing with some to-do list items that I've been avoiding. As is so often the case, my trepidations there were unfounded. The most important was calling my sister whom I have not heard from since October when I emailed her about the goings-on of Charlie and me. I told her about the workshop, about my giving him a chunk of... Sign in to see full entry.
