Finally had enough!
Enough of this laptop crashing randomly, of losing its volume control, of the on/off switch getting crankier and crankier... This morning I acquired a new old pc--another refurbished one, another HP, another one about the same size as this one but capable of faster processing, and I am hoping for better volume control, too. We'll see. I have 30 days to love it or return it. Loading my game onto it now, to make sure it has the capability of playing it properly. If so, then I will take this one...
