(wrote this to a friend today, and it seemed a good sort of thing to share) We don't get to know all the good we do: lives touch for a moment, and in that moment fortunes change forever: ideas sprout, things become possible. hazards are evaded, courses are corrected... Then we all move along on our own trajectories... never again meeting that person, never realizing that one thing we did--maybe not even noticing--made all the difference in the world.
