The bureaucracy of exams

I just came back from the exams. The exams themselves were not that long. What was long was the whole b....y process! 2 hours to get everyone registered, and make sure they have all the documents they need and the photocopies etc.... Then 1/2 hour to get the first questionnaire, 15 min. to explain... Sign in to see full entry.

Arctic up dates

I've got an e-mail from my Mann: Says everything's fine again, working hard and the sea is not too bad. They are going towards Groenland tomorrow and it might get a bit rougher, but for now it's OK. He can't write long e-mail because every 2 minutes the connection breaks down. Ouf, feels better.... Sign in to see full entry.

Waiting for news of the Arctic

I know everythings must be fine up there, but with my "strange-zone" of the moment, I am a bit worried. I tried to find more info about the exact weather conditions up north, but I am not sure where exactly they are at the moment and the Arctic ocean is...well an ocean! Quite big. I haven't had any... High Winds in the Arctic!

Got an e-mail from my Mann yesterday: things are not going all that well at the moment. There are high winds that push seaice and icebergs towards them and they had to hide from it behind an ice island (7 km long by 3 km large and 3 m above water). Fortunately, they are on a good ice breaker... Sign in to see full entry.

Strange weekend

What a strange weekend I had! It started with my friend who had called to let me know that she was coming to Ottawa for a few days and would have like us to meet. She then called back saying she couldn't come because of her Mann's accident. He badly hurt his head on the sidewalk (see previous entry... Sign in to see full entry.

Little life...Part II

I have a little confession to make about yesterday's story: I have a rather strong affinity to Snail. You see, I am a member of the Slow Food movement and our mascot is the snail. It is an obvious choice: the snail is slow, slow to move, slow to eat, even slow to reproduce, and also, it is edible!... Sign in to see full entry.

One little life at the time...

I think that my luck is finally turning: The Dog and I went for our daily walk along the river this morning. The weather was, I was about to say miserable, but let say "humid", very "humid". In fact, it was pouring rain. But not cold. Well, it can't be really cold when a hundred pound dog is walking... Sign in to see full entry.

Bad Luck, anyone?

Do you some times feel as if trap in a tunnel of bad-lucks? As if you were walking on a road were good-luck was forebidden? As you say in English: it never rains, it pours! I feel like I am walking in such a zone at the moment. I know that there are also good-luck zones (I passed through them from... Sign in to see full entry.

Shipping bikes and bureaucracy

Little up-date on our stuff shipped from Germany to Canada: I called the company yesterday to ask where our stuff was. The answer was NOT what I had expected: our stuff has arrived on the 25th of August and NO one called us!!!! They told me that they tried (really?) but that because we didn't have... No ice for the ice-breaker

I've got an e-mail from my Mann in the Arctic and he says that the food's great, the people working on the boat nice but that the ocean is still open, i.e. that the ice does not cover all the surface of the sea. This is a bit worrysome because at this time of year the ice-breaker should have to,... Sign in to see full entry.
