An Energy-Saving Gift

I came out with a gift yesterday when I went in person to pay my energy bill. The utility company was giving this particular gift to everyone as they came and paid their bills. It was an energy-saving shower head and two spiral energy saving light bulbs. The energy company obviously is encouraging... Sign in to see full entry.

Grateful For Horseradish Root

A co-worker brought in a couple of horseradish root for me today. He brought me some last year as well. I have been a great lover of horseradish for a long time now. It goes back to when I was running track in high school. We stopped at a fast food place after a meet. Along with fries there was a... Sign in to see full entry.

Anonymous Surveys, Not Unions

I filled out an anonymous survey a few weeks ago in regard to my satisfaction with my place of employment. Today, there was a follow-up, an opportunity for anyone who wished to talk to a representative of the survey team. The representative stressed that we were being kept anonymous. She gave an... Random And Deliberate Acts Of Kindness

Recently I heard about two unusual acts of kindness. A coworker this morning drove through a coffee shop drive-through line, and to his great surprise the person ahead of him--with a Random Acts of Kindness bumper sticker--paid for his cup of coffee. Now my coworker feels compelled to pass on this... Sign in to see full entry.

Prognositcation, Not Gambling

I am an avid football fan. I like to follow the games and pick who will win. But I do not gamble. In gambling, there is moral void. Many people become addicted to gambling, so I want no part of it. I prognosticate, but I do not gamble. If I wanted to, I could study the teams closely and determine... Sign in to see full entry.

So then I reflected on a list of various others known primarily or almost exclusively by their first name, and of their notoriety. Almost all of them have their quirks. Here... Oil Change: I Always Manage To Do It.

I bought a new oil filter this morning, in preparation for the oil change I would make. I made doubly sure that I bought the right filter. I was unsure if the weather would be optimal today for the oil change, but it broke favorably in the early afternoon. For a spell there, the rain was not... Sign in to see full entry.

Reason Is Lacking In The Mob Crowds

When I heard that college students at Penn State had overturned vehicles, my first thought was that they were actually making the Occupy Wall Street encampment look reasonable. But no, in neither of these cases, is there reason displayed. People in crowds will flock to one person with cult devotion... Sign in to see full entry.

Without Change, There Is Boredom

A coworker during our transitional meeting complained about how bad the struggles were with the processing and packing of new products in new ways. The supervisor corrected him. He said, without change there is only boredom. That is the wonderfull thing of life. There are always changes. It can be... Sign in to see full entry.

Off-Year Election? No Longer Anything To Pass Up

Today marked an election day, an off-year election. In the past, I must admit, I did not bother to vote in odd-numbered years nor even in any year that did not feature the presidential race. Also, only very recently, did I start to vote in primaries. The way decisions have been made by government in... Sign in to see full entry.
