"What do you do to make it through the long work day," asked a co-worker. I did not give an answer at that time, but in fact there are things I do to mentally make it through the day. I usually read through a book during my breaks. When I am extremely tired, I often break out into song. Otherwise,... Sign in to see full entry.
Recognizing Agenda 21
"Sustainability," "growth management," "smart growth," "Vision 20--[year]" are all buzzwords that point to Agenda 21. I went to a lecture tonight given my a lady, Rosa Koire, who has been a whistle blower to this insidious United Nations agenda-driven movement. Time does not permit me to go into... Not In Favor Of Early Voting
Call me old-fashioned, but I am all for the tradition of voting at the poll. And yet today, there are some states who are starting early voting--a whole month in advance? Perceptions and judgments could change a whole lot in a month. But more significantly I think early voting is used too easily as... Sign in to see full entry.

Preempted
On Autumn Sundays, I turn the radio dial to football coverage and analysis. But at the six o' clock hour(AM--I get up early), the local radio group preempts this with a local community news segment for an hour. This always irks me, because the radio group also has a news(and talk radio) station. Why... Sign in to see full entry.

On The Rebound
I have picked myself up from the bicycle stolen from me, and now I have another. I bought a good, older bike from a man who switched to the bicycle his college-aged son does not ride any more. The ease to which I attain to higher speeds impresses me, making my destinations that much closer. The bike... Sign in to see full entry.

The Perfect Parallel Parking
Parallel parking does not come natural to me. Almost every time I am far from the curb. Today I have to say I parallel parked perfectly--something I did not think possible. Maybe the nearby bicyclist in some odd way threw me off my normal routine so that I actually lined up right. The light turned,... Sign in to see full entry.

Thieves Are Scum
Oddly enough, I saw my biking helmet by itself when I opened my door today. My bicycle was gone! Someone had used bolt cutters to cut loose my bike from its security cable, and then they stole it. In the dead of night, while I was sleeping. Thieves are such scum, regardless of what they steal. It is... Sign in to see full entry.

Don't Trust The Polls!
Polls are supposed be scientific, right? Only in theory. Other than that, they are just like the news--shaped by the agenda of those who conduct them and report them. Too much of the motivation of the pollsters is driven by politics and ideology. The latest New York Times/CBS News poll had Obama up... Sign in to see full entry.
Charity And The Question Of Profit
We may look admirably upon Not-For-Profit charity organizations, but because they are not allowed to turn a profit they have a distinct disadvantage compared to private business enterprises. Corporations can use advertising strategically and liberally to promote their products or services.... Sign in to see full entry.

Namesakes Of A Less Common Name
I do not know about all of those named John, Thomas, David, or Michael, but I gravitate with pride to the prominent people who bear the same first name as I. Because my name is less common, there are fewer who are renowned--but I am sure to circle their names. My name is Neil, so I am a fan of Neil... Sign in to see full entry.
