I tried my hand at poetry and it just isn't my thing.

As for the sound of rain...I love it!

Everyone has their own style of writing whether poetry, short story, etc. So do you. You don't need to sell yourself short. You are quite the prolific writer and good one at that!

I would definitely say that you just wrote a beautiful poem.  Keep the coming.

Well Kabu ma'am, you are indeed a great poet, so loving and picturesquely written this one that does not only describe the scene but also the feeling and the pathos of it all. , excellent!

You like the smell of wet soil?  Black crickets in between cockroaches. I had ivy leaves and scented geraniums in a planter that hung from the shed canopy, on the patio.

(with indignation) Who said you aren't a poet!?

I believe you have the soul of a poet, an eye for beauty and a

beautiful open heart.

I just happened to have Alan Alda's memoir "Things I Overheard While Talking To Myself"  lying open on the desk next to my keyboard as I read your post. On P. 88 he's asking the artist's (poet's) questions. "What does it mean to be human?" he speaks of the artist's courage and generosity, the fact that no matter how long we've been at it, whatever the art might be, even after years of doing it, "you're always back where you started, a beginner. Because every time you head for the horizon, it's not there."  I think he said it pretty well.

Kabu

That's just a magnificently beautiful write, and you most certainly are a poet! I could feel all of the beauty and loved reading it. I fear, not much poetry will come from any longer so I'm glad to read you.
