Do you have Angie's List in Canada?
Here in the south 48, Angie's List is a website where you can review the quality of work done by this kind of contractor, their competence, cost, etc... Neighbors you don't know can recommend good workmen, or warn you away from the grifters.

My goodness! They have you coming and going! The important thing is that it's done but when the piggy bank gets broken so to speak it's tough to put it back together! You and Wiley manage to get past every obstacle so I know you will conquer this one, too! sam

Sounds like the guy was trying to take you for all he could get. I hope you check this way. Type in the company name ie
