At Thanksgiving, my sister-in-law said she had lost about 25 lbs. and when

I asked how she did it, she said the doctor told her to eat protein and vegetables; not protein with starches; such as a steak and baked potato. She said you won't lose because of the starch in the potato... so always opt for the protein and veg. when you want to lose. She was proof that it works.  Of course we all know how to lose, it's just not a great time when the parties and dinners this time of year are so frequent!  So.......enjoy and don't worry about those scales and such. Then after the holidays are over, get down to business and try to stay on track at least five days a week with your proteins, green veg. and fruits. The 17-Day Diet book helped my husband. I picked out the stuff we liked that were good for you and made a lot of it. Some of that stuff in diet books are way off track!!     Good luck!!

P.S. Subways without the sides and with plenty of fresh vegetables are working really well too.  You can get a  lot of deals on Subways here at least.

I lost a little over twenty pounds when I started back to work, not so much the work as the new eating habits, or not eating habits. I love my scales when the numbers go down and step on it at least once every day, but when the numbers start going back up not so much.

The holidays can be a bane when it comes to gaining weight! I bet you will do as well without Weight Watchers® because you have the incentive to lose! I know you can meet your objective! sam

It's only Christmas once a year...I am studying fat burning foods and plan to put them on a website when I get one.  Plans can be found on clickbank.  I ate a big plate of one of their recipes and lost a pound! Some of it really works.

Oh, I just hate having to worry about losing weight...

It's so hard and time consuming... and for me, always seemed to suck the life out of anything else I might do.  Like your whole day is spent thinking about what not to eat, when not to eat.

I wish you two the best of luck with this.

My health-weight plan

Eat smart: learn to love clear soups with fresh vegies and lean meat; make sure you only eat bread you have to chew at least some; go easy on refined carbs; replace rice and noodles and potatoes with salad greens...  Then, exercise a little more than you want to at first.  And just toss the scales.  Strive to feel well, forget the numbers.

Kabu

Here's what you do: Use a 10lb dumbbell (if you haven't got one, buy one or better two; you should use them for exercises anyway!), place it on the scales, adjust them, and Bob's your uncle...

This is the cutest post. Funny, serious and all together done very well. Love you two and you fit in my photo gallery no matter what your scales say.

The springs they use...

On these new scales are made of really cheap metal that fatigues easily, thus every time you step on the scale, ~bing~, you weigh more, which means the springs are actually weaker.  That's my story anyway!

When deciding which scales to throw into the snow & which to keep,

keep the scales which register your least weight. btw/this is a dangerous time of year to be on a diet.

I give up on scales  I just go by my clothes and how they fit

Kabu, I'm convinced the only good scales are on fish...

and even they get peeled off...we have one scale which we keep under the bed and only take out when it promises to be good...

Commiserations Kabu it is a long uphill struggle. You see years ago folk had to walk

everywhere. I am sure we are not programmed to ride, well if one can afford the petrol.

So we just have to put up with the inconvenience  of being slightly chubby. It probably keeps the cold out although my tummy always feels cold. Don't worry.

There was a segment on Dr. Oz a few weeks ago about

weighing yourself. He showed a scale that doesn't tell your weight. It just takes the first weigh-in as a starting point, and each time you weigh in after that it tells whether you've lost or gained.

Speaking of scales -- even the ones in Doc's office are off from those in the other Doc's in a two-hour time spread. I won't tell the actual number, but Doc 1's was almost 6 pounds lighter than Doc 2's in a period of two hours. Go figure!
