There's a lesson to learn even in sticking to something you're
not thrilled about. Of course that can be taken to extremes, too. One way to learn to stick to a thing through thick and thin, no matter what: become a parent.

My kids went into every activity knowing they had to finish what they started! I think it is important to do things we don't really like to learn how to deal with adversity! sam

It depends, was it the kid's idea or the parents for him to take up baseball? When I was a kid, my parents made me take piano lessons. I continued them for three years, until, the teacher moved away. I didn't have to pursue them after that. Though, I admire those who can play the piano, it's not where my interest & talent lies, so, I have never regretted stopping the lessons.

I would see how close it is to the end of the season. If the season is close what's another game or two? If it's at the beginning I would be inclined to let him quit.

My mother always MADE me stick it out...
At the time I hated the fact that she made me stick things out.
Now, in retrospect, I am happy she did. It taught me discipline and that I may not always WANT to do something, but I should do it for the betterment of myself and those around me.
My hubster bought his daughter a guitar a few years back because she expressed interest in learning it and taking lessons. We also know a great guitarist who would teach her at a tremendous discount because he was a good friend of ours. She took two lessons and decided it wasn't what she wanted after all. Hubby said fine...let it go.
If it was me. . . I'd make her stick it out and learn that not everything comes easy. Some things you need to practice at before you get good at them.

The only thing we ever "made" them do...
Was T-ball just to see if they were interested, which they weren't, at least enough to do little league. They did play a couple of seasons though and I even got roped into being a base coach and last inning pitcher. The oldest was not into sports, he was an electronics geek (still is). The younger tried T-ball, wrestling, band, football until he made up his mind what HE wanted to do, motocross! The key is finding what the kids want to do.
