Re: Ciel
That sounds like a grand experience!  Between this image, and the NYT article (see gapcohen's link here in her second comment) I am more than ever moved to get back to where the whales are.

Re: Thank you so much, Mal, for sharing this article!

Ten pages, and well-worth reading from end to end!

It really updates the information I have had previously.

By the way  - this article http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/12/magazine/12whales-t.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1  was recently in the NY Times magazine.  It truly changed the way I look at whales - and your report corresponds to the awe described in the very last paragraph....Mal

So wonderfully, vividly written, Ciel - I feel as if I were there.  I'm thinking as Taps does - that they knew you were there and were checking you out...Mal

What a fantastic experience. I've been out on boats, off the Digby Neck in Nova Scotia, to watch humpbacks - and it was always a huge thrill! Once we were in a (fairly large) inflatable, which means you're really low in the water, and when they come up near you, you're not above them, but beside them...

Excellent, RRector!

so go, go!

Are there companies that take people out to sea... to see?

One of my dreams is to go whale watching. You bring it to life so vividly, you've revived the dream!

TAPS,
I have no doubt they were fully aware of our presence, a little tangle of energies perched on the edge of their world.  If you can find it, I highly recommend the book MIND IN THE WATERS. You will be fascinated!

That moment is one of the best ever in my little box of such treasures.. right up there with watching my son dance with his sister at her wedding!

Wow!  Those whales must have been curious about the two of you being there.  Did you ever feel that they were observing you?
