At least...
You got the satisfaction of putting her in her place!  When one works with the public, there is never a need to be rude.

It was important.  What if someone was in major trouble.  I am not trying to be dramatic but they could cost someone a arm, leg or life behaving that way.   I have a lot of experience with Dr. receptionist, they can make or break a place.  If the first people you meet behave that way you start to wonder about those in the back. Any way glad your okay now and home with your doggies.

Aggravating circumstance and yeah there is no excuse for rudeness I think I would reprimand a receptionist like that too. Enjoy you vaction time and feel better fast!

O.M.God, you have to be the most restrained lady on the planet. That came through to me so straight I practically drove back to Montreal to slap that witch upside her head and I'd have to call you to get her address. Grrrrrrrrrrr

Re: Absolutely no excuse for that kind of behavior.
Excellent quote, Ciel. No, I wasn't rude. I was flabbergasted, then very, very angry!! And she was rude to all the patients while I was there. I also agree it is inexcusable.

Re: One of the things that made the inconvenience and daily drive
Pat-B, you are so right. I spent many hours in the oncologist's office with my mom, my sister, and now my brother. The people in there are fabulous! As for this lady - I hope I don't have to deal with her again either for a long time. I also hope my telling the doctor about her will help her change her ways for future patients.

Re: Hope your doctor knows what he's doing.
I'm happy that you finally found out what was causing your pain, Decshak. I'm not allergic to anything other than penicillin, as far as I know. They need to do x-rays before the doc can pronounce his verdict. They can't do x-rays until the swelling goes down.

Thanks Troosha
I can think of other words to describe her, LOL.

Yes TAPS - the medecine is working
And you are right. My doctor is a nice young man. I could tell he was extremely embarrassed by what had happened.

Thanks, Sam444. I'm feeling better already
so vacation is turning out okay. I agree - there is no earthly excuse to be so rude.

LOL BC-A - good turn of phrase!
And as far as I'm concerned, she can go to health!! LOL!

Thanks mariposa
And after two days, the medication is working. I wonder - is it because she didn't like her job, or would she act like that no matter what her employment?

I think we are wise to be afraid. Hopefully our sons & daughters will teach their children what compassion and respect are all about. My generation seems to have missed the boat where these two very important feelings are concerned.

Re: EXCEPT THAT THIS IS THE TREATMENT MY NEW SISTER-IN-LAW
My old friend, Kilroy, said the same thing as you about Montreal, Kabu. Isn't it sad though, the way courtesy, and service, are forgotten?

Re: Great post
Malcolm - Is it like that in England too? I don't visit doctors often. i was completely taken aback by her rudeness.

Re: Why do people like that gravitate....
Thank you Corbin. But she wouldn't have found me gracious if she was one of our employees. I wasn't kidding about firing her because of attitude.

auslander - is it the way my generation raised our children?
But my own are so polite and have big hearts. What happened? It seems that many 25 to 40 year old people have a complete lack of respect..and feeling.

elinjo - I can remember my family doctor when my children were young
he would do house calls, even in the middle of the night. His wife was receptionist, and a very nice, very compassionate person. It's unfortunate that lack of service seems to be the trend at the present.

Absolutely no excuse for that kind of behavior.

I don't care what kind of day she was having, or what kind of life.  It doesn't even matter if she imagined you were rude first.  Most rude people, that's what triggers them, gives them the excuse.  But some don't need any excuse, they just don't give a damn.

"Rudeness is the small man's imitation of power."  I don't know who said it, and would change 'man' to person, but there it is.

One of the things that made the inconvenience and daily drive
over to the oncologist's office for radiation therapy was the persistent good will and pleasant greeting I got from the entire staff, receptionist, therapists, and the doctor. They always seemed pleased to see me, remembered silly things I told them. And they treated other patients equally well. You'd think an oncologist's waiting room where everybody has cancer or is tending to someone with it would be a gloomy place, but it seemed like everyone was working to keep everyone else's spirits up. The folks at the hospital could take notes. The snarky witch at your doctor's office is probably dealing with a bad situation in her own life. Maybe next time -- hopefully a long time from now -- she'll be more professional.

Hope your doctor knows what he's doing.
Mine didn't. Anti-inflammatory drugs were not enough for my pain which was actually caused by allergy to caffeine -- something it took me years to figure out, but which I figured out when they took Vioxin off the market. I actually prayed for an answer....and got one after I went back into the "remove one item from your diet" routine to keep checking for allergies as a cause of my pain....

Because we do count ourselves lucky for having a family doctor, we to tend to tolerate the waits, the ordeals, or the hoops they sometimes put us through.  Yikes – that receptionist sounds like a real piece of work!  Glad you're feeling better....

My temperature is rising for you, just reading this.  The doctor sounds ok, but that office help is something else.  There is no call for that.  I hope the medicine begins to help immediately.

Regardless of what happened there is no reason to be surly! I would have canned their behind, too! It is so important to have good manners when working with the public! They seemed a bit too selfish for me! Enjoy that vacation time! sam

I think I would have been required to let him know line by line. That was totally unacceptable. I am sorry this happened to you. I appreciate your strength and calm to go through this without any assualt on this person. God will bless you for your grace to that person. I would have written to the the doctor before that and asked for the scrip or something. That was dangerous business. This is not about me, sorry to have rattled on! It is a volitile issue down here in the US now. We are afraid of that sort of behavior.

It doesn't take much these days to feel rather angry at these people who work in the service industry but get piss off because one asks for ...service! I think that it is part of being incompetent!

Snarling receptionist.
What an awful experience for you. It makes me realize how lucky I am. My doctor is 5 minutes' walk from home. If I need a prescription renewal all I do is check in on line and within a short time the medicine is waiting for me at the chemist's round the corner. If I need information from the doctor that can often be done by mail. What is more his receptionist is warm-hearted and efficient. I hope you feel better soon.
