Hmm...
Haven't noticed this series before but will definitely come back.  I've been playing with this serious subject a bit and it is definitely a subject that usually gets quick and powerful response regardless on which side of the fence you inject an idea, so I see why it can rightfully be said that Israel is the canary in the mine.  The history of this geographical area since around 1300BC is certainly one that has kept the West fascinated for centuries and there is so much written about it that it can be utterly confusing and difficult to find a good point of departure for anybody new to the subject.

Naut
Just catching up on this series.  Man, do you ever have a way of capturing your reader and clearly this is a subject on which you are well informed as well as passionate about.  I am in awe not solely of your views but of your delivery as well.

Naut......
How did I miss this series?   I love it when you get on a roll on a subject.  It is sad that you can put so much work into something here and get a vapid response.  Funny how, on a writing site, reading is such a chore to everyone......

I would love to be able to sit and talk with you for hours, how interesting an experience that would be....I must put together a trip for Toronto next year, if at all possible!

You know, the real left....the super secular, relativists.....really fear that " Judaeo-Christian tradition" thingy.... It represents much too much of a threat to their "anything goes" philosophy.  It puts way too much of the "civil" in civilization.  Much too much chaos-killing influence involved!

The fact that subconscious beliefs and rationales ARE accessible

means that the core beliefs of individuals, and of nations of people can be explored and brought to consciousness, to a place of making new decisions about what can work and what can't.

I believe I will develop this further in my Universe blog, rather than hijack (Hi, Jack!) yours.

I always seem to be saying I agree with Taps but in this as so often I do
L wish you will expand that statement in simple terms that Kabu can digest at length. (two glasses of wine tonight may have left me fuddled in the head)

I like the way you put it of Israel being the canary in the mine of Western civilization.   It gives one much to ponder.

But, contrary to Europe, instead of opening itself to other point of views and trying to adapt to new times, Israel is closing on itself and shutting the door to its neighbours, some of them forcefully moved out from their own lands and the lands of their ancestors by...us to create the state of Israel in the first place. All is not black and white, with good Israel guys and bad Palestinian guys. I'll have to think it over some more before adding anything else. But, I'll be back. You can count on it!LOL

My dear Naut -
You write like an academic (there is scant information on your "about me" page, so I just have to guess), possibly a prof. on the University level, and, as such,  you should be submitting these posts to the New York Times as Op Ed pieces.  You have a way of taking the emotions that get someone like me in trouble out of the equation, supplanting them with cool-headed knowledge of history.  I am in awe of your wise point of view on this topic and your posts should be disseminated far and wide!  Keep them up!  Mal
