We Love New Joisey

Ever since the telecast of MTV's controversial yet ever popular reality show " Jersey Shore" it seems New Jersey is the new LA. Since the show aired it has sprung a string of other reality series including " Jerseylicious" and " Jersey Couture", it appears the nation cannot get enough of New Jersey! I must admit, I was on of those people, prior to being exposed to the " Jersey Shore" via my younger siblings, who thought television could not get any trashier. However, I was wrong! The show itself... Sign in to see full entry.

A n Angry Driver

Not that I am trying to sound sexist from the title of my post, but I honestly believe men to be better drivers than women! And this coming from a feminist, who has her own problems with driving. Known to drive fast, and take many risks while driving, I have since changed since having my son. I was visiting my in laws when I asked to take my mother in law's eleven year old beamer out to run an errand. The mall was just 10 minutes from her house, and I needed to return something before I was... Sign in to see full entry.

When Are You Really Helping

For almost a year and half now, I have been tutoring Rose at the Memphis Literacy Center. When I first met her, I had my reservations about her. Like most Memphians, I had allowed myself to give in to their stereotypes. I saw Rose as a lazy, welfare dependent person, who had several " baby daddy's." However, as I got to know more of Rose, slowly I saw each stereotype diminishing. In fact, Rose's life revolves around her kids, and trying to provide the best for her kids with the little that she... Sign in to see full entry.

Really, Adam Lambert?

Ever since the last season of American Idol it has been a non-stop roller coaster for the two finalists Chris Allen and Adam Lambert. While Allen is singing, " Live Like Your Dying" and enjoying his success as the " American Idol" winner, it is Lambert that is making the real headlines. It did not surprise us when he came out as gay; his hair, heavy black liner, and choice of clothing made it quite obvious. But he did not stop there, do we all not remember his infamous American Music Awards... Sign in to see full entry.

Death to the credit card companies

For almost a year, we have been hearing all over the news about companies going bankrupt, houses facing foreclosure, and people unable to make their mortgage payments. In other words, the reason why we are suffering from this recession is because of the ordinary working man taking out loans they are unable to pay back, greedy individuals raking up their credit card debt and unable to make their minimum payments. No one ever stopped to blame the banks or the credit card companies who made it so... Sign in to see full entry.

Epiphany

Reflecting upon my self, I do not like the person staring back at me. Age lines defining the scars of my past. I keep telling myself, " Next time, I'll do it right," but I must the truth. This is my life, defined by the mistakes of my past: ashamed, I must accept and move on. But how can i move on, when I dwell upon the pain that has been caused? All these questions only lead to more self inflicting pain, only reminding me of my scars. Scars that continue to haunt me. To live a life surrounded... Sign in to see full entry.

Nashville Delivers

On music's biggest night, we can expect anything to happen, particularly, when it comes to fashion. Do we not remember Toni Braxton's infamous Bob Mackie dress, Jewel's see-through dress, or any of Cher's costumes. It is a night where when celebrities and musicians alike like to push the limits and see what they can get away with it. In other words, it is a day off for normally glamorized stars, and a day of experimentation for the nominated artists. Let us not recall Brittany Spears’ ensemble,... Sign in to see full entry.

In the Wake of Tetah's Memory

It would have been years before I decided to return to address those haunting memories. As I stood before the iron cast doors to ring the bell, thoughts began running through my head. My thoughts were soon interrupted when someone opened the door. His face, I did not recognize. " Who could it be," I thought. " Had I really away that gone?" Apparently, he had seen me through the window as I walked up the cracked stone steps. It was obvious no had bothered to upkeep the place after her passing.... Sign in to see full entry.

Insomnia

The thoughts of what I've done come to haunt me, keeping me awake repenting my mistakes. Praying to the lifeless air to be forgiven as the tears bleed through my eyes. Gone those people, robbing me of my chance to repent. Hoping their spirits lurk the air to hear me bare my soul. A guilty conscience needing to be forgiven, cannot rest until they're gone. Years of taunting imagery reminding me of the past lead to thy grave. Now I join them in eternal grief as they've done to me as I've done to... Sign in to see full entry.
