For almost a year and half now, I have been tutoring Rose at the Memphis Literacy Center. When I first met her, I had my reservations about her. Like most Memphians, I had allowed myself to give in to their stereotypes. I saw Rose as a lazy, welfare dependent person, who had several " baby daddy's." However, as I got to know more of Rose, slowly I saw each stereotype diminishing.
