The day before departure

Last time, I left some clothes behind so that this time I can travel lighter. I needed extra space in the luggage to bring home the various items purchased for the costuming shop, and gifts and souvenirs. Knowing I'd be back, it made sense for both reasons, but most of what I left, if I had not made... Sign in to see full entry.

Longest sunset...

Seven hours it took the sun to set, as we chased it 3600 miles across the planet yesterday... The pictures from the flight are pretty poor, even some I posted on flickr just because they were all I had to give you glimpses of the day, of Iceland especially. Across much of the sky, over all of the... Sign in to see full entry.

Rainy day excursion

We went north yesterday across the green and grey rolling landscape towards Bolton Abbey in Yorkshire. It's another old roofless relic of the Dissolution of the Abbeys by Henry VIII and his Cromwell. Abbeys lost their rights and then their roofs, routinely: the lead was wanted elsewhere as much as... Sign in to see full entry.

Blackburn by the sea

Blackburn is on the west coast of England, and the water in these photos is a bay off the North Sea. Fly on west to find Ireland. I suspect the con trails are mostly out of Manchester and maybe London Heathrow, as well. https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/R16PHL These photos are from a cheap... Sign in to see full entry.

Lancashire landscapes, etc...

The weather was cloudy mostly with bits of sunlight today, and we drove to the town of Skipton where there is a castle--but after a bit of walking through the town and lunch, we decided to save the castle tour for another day. Taking photos while touring along the roads and lanes is a dubious... Sign in to see full entry.

Why there are not more photos

54 degrees North Latitude vs 39 degrees North Latitude... That's the difference between Walley, Lancashire UK and Colorado Springs, CO USA. What it means is noticeably longer dark winter nights, shorter days that go with them. That it has been mostly cloudy, often rainy, and occasionally snowy, and... Sign in to see full entry.

Via Iceland

The flight was not as long as some journeys to visit my middle child: only 6 1/2 hours from Denver to Reykjavik, then about 30 minutes standing around between planes, and another 2 1/2 hours to Manchester. The drive to Whalley was another half hour or so. One thing to take special note of when... Sign in to see full entry.

Castlewood Canyon State Park

https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/Qf5h6t Some more wild Colorado Autumn shots, taken yesterday at Castlewood Canyon State Park. It was a gorgeous day, warmer than anyone expected it to be, and just a few wispy clouds overhead. Looking at the first photo in the series, the furthest one, clicking... Sign in to see full entry.

Rocky Mountain autumn

Here are the best of yesterday's photos taken on a most lovely October 1st as the aspens shivered in shades of bright yellow and peach, some trees shading from green through yellow to palest orange. They show a burst of color on the evergreen slopes, or a swath across a landscape, or a own a patch... Sign in to see full entry.
