THE CHRIS2303 WRITING COMPETITION

For those of you who are playing in my little competition - here is a quick rundown of what to do...

Send me any type of writing you like - word limit is 2000 words but feel free to write only 60.

The deadline is Monday night my time.

All entries will be posted in the town square (here) without your screen name, i.e, nobody will know who wrote what.

The best post gets voted by other members of BN - you can also vote if you wish.  No, not for yourself.

Posts should be emailed to me at chris4president@ntlworld.com.

A note on verbal abuse and site disruptions

Blogging Network is a wonderful, growing community. As with all communities, there are always a small number of people who attempt to damage the community in different ways.

The most common violation of the Terms of Use is verbal abuse. There are many useful online resources on understanding verbal abuse and how to deal with such abusers. For some examples, please see Verbal Abuse in General, the Suite 101 Verbal/Emotional Abuse page, or the Google directory on psychological abuse.

Another issue is people whose goal is to disrupt the site in an attempt to cause problems for other members and/or for BN itself.

We are taking steps to minimize the impact of such abusers, and we would appreciate any suggestions you have.

Please feel free to email us at help@shaycom.com if you have questions or concerns.

(This post has been edited to add new links since Suite 101 was down.)

Response to Gentle-Willow

In response to this comment, we sent a notification of the violation to the email address on file for your account. If you wish to discuss it, please contact us via email.

Notice to Y'all

From now on, in the interest of transparency, my blogs will bear my nom de blog in the title's first words.

This is to facilitate boycotting. Seriously. If you are unhappy with my stuff, now you can tell which ones are mine and avoid them.

I invite everyone else to do the same. If you use my nom de blog on your titles, you're a ratfink!

(It also enables your fans to find your stuff easier and so rack up more hits, but don't tell anyone).

Response to two comments

In response to this comment and this comment, we would like to note the following:

1. We did not remove a post from the "Life According to Ariala" blog.

2. We do not suspend a member simply because a potential violation is reported. A member is only suspended if they have actually violated the Terms of Use.

I am betting on between one and three comments by 0900 tomorrow

New

Seeing that not many people frequent this board, I think I'll introduce myself here. I have no blogs yet because I just signed up a few minutes ago. It was very scary, let me tell you. After staying up quite late to see what this was all about, I was intrigued but also intimidated. (should I be blogging this instead of making this post? Oh well...) The tension between the idealist in me and the cynic can make me quite indecisive. Despite the apprehension I felt after reading the evaluations of bloggers by other bloggers and the commentaries pertaining to the competitive atmosphere here (or perhaps in a strange way partly because of all that), I was compelled to give it a go. So here I am, ready to be put under the microscope, hoping to be on everyone's good side because I'm not competitive or malicious...but then again, I am passionate about my convictions, so controversy seems to follow me around. Did I come to the right place? On to my about me page...(but first I have to feed my 15 month-old her breakfast)

What is Miles doing - clogging the blog?

Not exactly.  Actually I've appreciated your comments on successful blogging.  And no, I'm not suffering from Newbie Disorder either.  I'm gearing up for spinal surgery, then a year on interferon for hepatitis C.

Since my novel was first published, I've wanted to post it online, so I did.  That explains the 20-something blogs I've posted so far.  Why would Miles do that?

I author my own blog, dedicated to the hepC community.  I spend most of my time helping them.  Posting my novel here allows my fellow HepKats to read it for $5.95.  This way, I hope to make just a little money while I'm on treatment - experimental treatment.  Going for the cure.  Treatment knocks you down hard.  When I'm up - I report my treatment progress, using my own blog to reach the hcv community.

Lots of great writers here, and the competition is more fun than watching a dog show judge grab a handful of Doberman genitalia.
