I'm looking for more interpretations again. While the following is not a parable, it is an interesting statement by Jesus/Yeshua. In the parable of the Good Samaritan, we saw Jesus/Yeshua turn the world upside down, showing people acting in entirely new, and unexpected, ways. Another example of Yeshua/Jesus' new way of looking at things, his new reality, was his take on divorce. In his time, divorce was acceptable, if not required, based on the interpretation of verses in Genesis. Based on that interpretation, it was perfectly acceptable for men (not women) to divorce. If you read yesterday’s post, it was about the parable of the Good Samaritan. I asked for comments on the interpretation of the parable. Here is my interpretation: For me, this parable shows more than just being a good person – helping those less fortunate. Westwend made a suggestion yesterday concerning the parables found in the New Testament. This grew out of a few comments on my post yesterday on spiritual maturity. He suggested that there are probably as many interpretations as there are people. He may be right. So I decided to take his suggestion and post them and see what kind of interpretations we get. JustA wrote a post earlier today that explained two levels of understanding with regard to God. One was the “wordly” level and one was the “godly” level. JustA makes a very good point. If one looks the main distinctions one tends to see when discussions about the Bible or “God” occur, there are usually two camps: one is a camp that sees “God” as one who is loving, but judgmental. Jesus/Yeshua's mission of spreading a new testatment, a new reality, a different understanding of "God" is very apparent. Beyond statements he made to that affect (see earlier post), his use of parables is another example of this. A parable is nothing more than a story, albiet a story that usually contains a moral. Why would Yeshua/Jesus tell stories? Perhaps a better question to ask first is what are stories used for? Typically, stories are used to teach. Whether teaching the history of a... Ariala recently posted that the theory of evolution is just that – theory. Well, she is right. It is just a theory. But of course, if one has an understanding of science, then one knows that a theory in the science world is something that has been verified by actual experimentation and/or observation. Yeshua/Jesus' message of a different reality then what was being experienced was, as would be expected, a radical concept in his day. So radical, in fact, that many, including his own family, thought he was mad - full of demons (see John 8:48 and Mark 3:20-21). They had good evidence to support their claim. If you've read my posts for a while, you will know that I believe that "God" is love. Just look at 1 John 4:7, 4:17 and 1 John 16, and you will see why. I believe Jesus/Yeshua's testament is that love is the answer, that love is the "way" to "God". There are others who recorded what Yeshua/Jesus said. Many more books that were not included in the New Testament written by the Apostles and by Christian leaders of the time, or letters from same, record much of what Jesus/Yeshua said.
