The Election For Chief

Tude has been running a campaign for chief of police. It should be noted that the chief position is appointed and not done by election but Tude is trying to rally the officers behind him and use that as a selling point when he interviews for the position. There are a couple of problems with this.... Sign in to see full entry.

Do You Know Him? No? Good!

Last night, I pulled up outside a c-store where one of the cashiers was out having a smoke. I've known her for quite a few years. I had chased down a gas skip for them earlier that turned out not to be a gas skip, the other cashier had made a mistake. I was heading behind the c-store where a semi... Sign in to see full entry.

The Last Time I Was Pepper Sprayed

My little adventure this morning, posted in Be Fit!, reminded me of the last time I was pepper sprayed. This was one of the times that it was done on purpose and proves that leading by example can be a bad thing. We were doing pepper spray training for the new reserve officers. Pepper spray training... I'm Going To Swith The Office Politics To This Blog

and leave Adventures for the actual police work. That's the way it should be. That's the fun part of the job. The office politics suck unless you're the chief. He said it was pretty funny watching how officers were puffing themselves up and posturing for the chief spot. He has been amused by the... Sign in to see full entry.

The Creation Of A Cop

When the Lord was creating police officers, he was into his sixth day of overtime when an angel appeared and said, "You're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one." And the Lord said, "Have you read the spec on this order? A peace officer has to be able to run five miles through alleys in the... Sign in to see full entry.

"What scares you most about this job?"

That's one of the questions we ask. Here's some answers with my thoughts. I kept them to myself until the applicant left the room. "My background check." Realllllly. I do the background checks. Note to self, dig until you find it. "Losing control." Uhhh, thanks for coming. See ya. Another question:... Sign in to see full entry.

Time To Start Interviewing People Again

Every year, my department creates a hiring roster. We do a test and interview of people applying for the job and rank them. If there is an opening in the following year, we take the top three available people and have them come in to talk to the chief and do background checks on them. The reason we... Quote Sent To Me By Ninja

Of every One-Hundred men, Ten shouldn't even be there, Eighty are nothing but targets, Nine are real fighters... We are lucky to have them... They make the battle. Ah but the One, One of them is a Warrior... and He will bring the others back. -- Hericletus c. 500 BC I think that the quote still... Sign in to see full entry.

The Logic Of The Chief

I missed the last department meeting because I was sick but I have been filled in on what it was about. Several times on one item that I thought I should pass on to you. Our chief said that when we write a lot of tickets, we end up getting a lot of cases. Some of that may be directly related but... Sign in to see full entry.

Suicide Attempt From The Police Side

Yesterday we had a guy try to kill himself with a gun. We respond to these as a "man with a gun" call. It doesn't become a suicide call until we have made the scene safe. Several years ago, a kid shot himself in the head while his mother was home. She called for an ambulance which got her the police... Sign in to see full entry.
