I have often thought about why the Bush administration backed off of their insistance that Saddam was trying to buy fuel for WMD's in Niger. The British intelligence service believed it totally. Only Joe Wilson, who traveled there on a mission to discredit the president, asked around down at the fish market, nobody seemed to be able to answer, so he returned to Washington with a huge false positive on the deal.
