Anyone Out There?

I'm trying to figure some things out here. Maybe I'm just off-base. It wouldn't be the first time. But what I'd like to know is, where are my comments? Are you guys reading this stuff? Ya must be, or I wouldn't be hovering around the top ten in this Section. But no one seems to be commenting. Am I... Sign in to see full entry.

With Friends Like This...

According to CNN, the French have said that if Iraq uses chemical or biological weapons against U.S. troops, then "it would change completely the situation...." because "No army is allowed by treaties to use [such] weapons. This is absolutely forbidden and... he would create a completely new... Sign in to see full entry.

Happiness Is ...

a blooming pussy willow. Purple crocus and daffodils poking up through the newly laid mulch. A bluebird at my mealworm feeder. Parsley and chives in the herb garden. Setting the potted plants back on the porch. Children laughing as they dig in the backyard. Two small arms twined tight around my neck... Sign in to see full entry.

Thoughts on "New Perspectives" on the Bible

I'm wondering why preachers who claim to be "Christians" don't believe what the Bible says. I'm wondering why I keep going to church, when I am so often disappointed with the teaching. Recently, our minister started a series on important people in the Bible. The first sermon in the series was,... Sign in to see full entry.

Feed the Birds --- $2 a Bag

Despite inflation's raising the price from tuppence a bag to $2, we feed the birds. And the squirrels. And the chipmunks. And whatever other little friends want to come to the wildlife emporium in the backyard. Every year, we improve the area a little more. One day, I'm going to register it with the... My Son on Patriotism

We were at "Wendy's" buying me a spicy chicken sandwich for supper; the boys had already gotten their fish from Cap'n D's. My son saw the flagpole across the street, with its Stars and Stripes above the bank's own pennant. "Mommy! They have the flag...the 'Merican flag! They must be 'Mericans!" "Of... This IS About Penguins!

I love 'em. Really adorable, engaging little birds. I've been collecting stuffed animal versions for years. (only the realistic-looking ones, please) My favorite penguin? The Rockhopper (Eudyptes crestatus ). I saw some of these at the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago's suburbs, and fell totally in love.... Sign in to see full entry.

Torture for Truth!? Time for War! Any Questions?

After reading Joanne Jacobs's article on the torturer, and then going back to the article that prompted her blog entry, I have to comment. This cretin, this monster, who beats 5- and 6-year-old children with steel cables to get their moms to "talk" has the effrontery, the unmitigated gall, to equate... Sign in to see full entry.

Help! My Balloon Fell in the Potty!

My son came running up to me today while I was fighting with the gas company on the phone. He yells, "Help! My balloon fell in the potty!" So when I finally get off the phone with the gas company, I go to the half-bath that is "their" bathroom, and sure enough, his balloon is in the potty. Last... Sign in to see full entry.

Modern "Conveniences"? And Trouble in Threes

Okay, so I get home last night at almost 10, and there's a note on my door that they have turned off my gas service because they were doing repairs. The note says I can call between 7 am and 7 pm to request that the service be turned on. So I set my alarm for 6 so I can be alert when time to call... Sign in to see full entry.
