What IS a Taco Salad, Anyway?

There must be as many variations on the "taco salad" theme as there are tortillas in Mexico. While most of them come in a bowl-shaped, crispy flour tortilla shell, I have had some laid on top of a trio of crispy corn tortillas (flat).
