In June 1944, when it became clear beyond peradventure that the Nazis were slaughtering Jews and others in their millions in the remote areas of Russia, Poland and East Europe, Winston Churchill addressed the House of Commons on this mass annihilation. In his speech, he said “ … we are in the presence of a crime without a name …” This crime is of course what we now refer to as genocide.
