Guess the airlines were getting jealous
Yeah. The TSA and Homeland security were really fouling up travelers with long lines, unnecessary searches and general stupidity in their searches. So, the airlines said, we can do better than that; we don't want the TSA upstaging us; we can make their waits longer and more uncomfortable. The FAA said, "Cool! Let us help you...."
