Robin, Worm, Crow, and Vole Con't. (Worm has a confession)

All eyes focused on Worm. Worm said nothing for what seemed like a very, very long time. When he spoke, it was in halting sentences and in subdued voice. "I.... I don't want to die today, but I had to.... I had to say.... I just wanted to tell you.... [suddenly Worm turned bright red - I am not just talking about red as in fire engine red, but a luminous red that could only be described as 'Worm was glowing' ]. One could easily observe that worm was struggling to find just the right word. It was... Sign in to see full entry.

Robin, Worm, Crow, and Vole (Vole Delivers)

Posted on February 11, 2011 by shamsuddin001 http://poetryisforsissies.webs.com When Vole poked his head out from the tunnel, Robin and Crow were deep into an intense conversation about integrety. ”I know he will return because he promised he would.” Robin said with conviction. “You are a fool, Robin! No worm is going to return to certain death just because he promised.” Crow chuckled. ”Life and living to see another day have their own morals.” “Worm may plead for his life, but I am sure he will... The Hell Generations (Robin, Worm, & Crow Con't)

Back on the surface, Robin and Crow were deep in a conversation about the vagaries of raising a new generation every year. (Just imagine if our children grew up in a single year and then we started over the next year). “I remember three seasons back hatching a brood of chicks that I call ‘the generation from hell’,” Robin said with a shudder. “Our ‘hell generation’ was just last year,” Crow responded. “I will never forget when the three of them attacked a pack of coyotes. They said afterward... Sign in to see full entry.

Worm has a Moral Dilemma (Robin, Worm, & Crow Con't)

Worm had a major dilemma to work through. He felt that his integrity was at stake. How many seeds should he deliver before his escape? Many would not give his ‘predicament’ a second thought. If he were to talk to crow, for example, crow would say, ” So what’s the problem? Escape at any time you feel like it! Survival has no morals.” But worm was not like crow at all. He had promised robin to bring seeds if she released him, and he was determined to deliver on his promise. On the other hand, worm... Sign in to see full entry.

Robin and Worm (with Crow [Con't])

Worm had disappeared down the vole hole sometime during the laugh fest. Robin and crow were still laughing hard when crow noticed that worm was gone. "Hey robin, look! You have lost worm for sure now." Robin's laughter stopped like a train when someone pulls the emergency cord. "He'll be back with another seed. We had a deal." "Wake up and smell the roses, red-breast; there's no way that worm will be back to the surface anytime soon!" "Crow, you are such a cynic. Worm and I have a," she... Sign in to see full entry.

Robin and Worm (Con't)

Just then a sunflower seed appeared rising out of the vole hole. It was followed by a young handsome worm. Crow about fell over again, but not from laughing. His beak dropped wide open. In that brief moment a new respect for robin was born. Crow was the first to speak. "Well, I'll be a scarecrows uncle! Robin, I dunno how you pulled this one off and I don't thinks I wants to!" Robin was the one laughing now, and she could not stop. The scene was just too funny. She fell on her side, howling with... Sign in to see full entry.

Robin and Worm (Con't)

Robin waited a long time. Still no worm. She wondered whether voles eat worms. She wondered whether she had been had. Her speculations were brought to a screeching halt by a thick, raspy voice from behind. "Whatcha waitin for?" It was crow and there was a note of sarcasm in his voice. "Worms don't just crawl out of the ground, ya know.... unless it's rainin." "Well, as a matter of fact, Mr. Know-it-all, I expect a worm to crawl out of that hole any minute! And.... I expect he'll be pushing a sun... Sign in to see full entry.

Robin and Worm (Con't)

"You will get your sunseeds, I promise!" said worm. "OK," robin surrendered to her fate. "Want me to lift you over there?" "No thanks, I can crawl." Robin watched as worm crawled, all too slowly for Robin to the entrance of the vole tunnel. Worm started down the tunnel; then, he was gone. For robin, it seemed like an eternity had passed before worm's snout appeared pushing one sunflower seed before it. Robin snatched up the seed and devoured it in a not so lady-like fashion. "Mmmmmmmmmmmm, this... Sign in to see full entry.

Robin and Worm (Con't)

Robin and Worm (Con't) "A vole has stored a large cache of seeds right down that hole." "But," he continued, "They are too deep for you to get to them with your beak. I will have to go down and push them up one at a time." "Not so fast, worm! How do I know you will return?" "If you want the seeds, you will just have to trust me." "I have a better idea. I will hold on to your tail and you stretch out and pull back a seed." "Too deep," replied worm. "You are just going to have to trust me." Worm... Sign in to see full entry.

Robin and Worm (Con't)

Worm began to sweat (which is quite rare for worms). He had managed to get within a foot of the vole hole. He had to think of something and fast! "I know where there is a stash of sunflower seeds," he said with a confidence that sounded quite convincing. Robin stopped in her tracks. She had eaten sunflower last season, when the snow was on the frozen ground and finding a worm was quite impossible. She remembered the rich nutty taste. And so she stood there frozen in memories. Finally she spoke:... Sign in to see full entry.

Robin and Worm (Con't)

Worm could see that his questions were engaging robin. In fact, worm was on a roll. "Have you considered this, robin, pound for pound seeds have more protein and calories than worms." "Where did you ever hear that?" robin replied incredulously. "I was feasting by the dump one day when I came across a human book about nutrition. It had a chart comparing various substances for nutritional value and calories per ounce." It also said that seeds contained 100% of the trace minerals needed for health... Robin and Worm (Con't)

Robin failed to notice worm's subtle movements topward the vole hole. And worm made sure to keep the dialogue going. "I heard once that seeds have more vitamins and essential trace minerals than worms... have you considered that? I also heard that the essential oils in seeds provide a natural boost to your immune system." "Really?" robin was curious now. Seeds did not taste that bad, she recalled from her winter foraging. Perhaps she should add a daily ration of seeds to her diet. Meanwhile,... Sign in to see full entry.

Robin and Worm (Con't)

Unless he could get to that vole hole a mere three feet away (for a worm three feet is like an entire football field). Worm knew robin was getting hungry. He knew his conversation needed to be VERY engaging. He knew his movement had to be subtle and slow if he were to realize any hope of escape. "I have always been curious, robin, just what do we worms taste like?" "You taste like food, of course," said robin without much thought. Worm laughed out loud. "Ya know they say that one being's food in... Sign in to see full entry.

The Robin and the Worm (Con't)

Both robin and worm were silent for a long time. Finally, robin broke the silence, "Dirt really tastes good to you?" "Yes.... really," said the worm. "How about worms, we really taste good?" Have you ever tried seeds? "I eat seeds once in awhile.... usually when the ground is frozen and I am really hungry." Robin began to fidget, lifting one leg, then the other. With all this talk of food, she realized that she was getting mighty hungry. Worm was beginning to fidget too, but for other reasons.... Sign in to see full entry.

The Bird and the Worm

One early morning a robin heard a worm moving under the earth. With a few deft movements of head, the robin plucked the worm from beneath the ground. "Not fair", shouted the worm. "You can hear my every movement, while I have no warning of your coming. You should sing as you scour the ground for your dinner." "Silly worm," replied the now indignant robin, "It is the depth of the silence, itself, that allows me to hear your slightest move. When it comes to hunger, fair is not in my vocabulary."...
