Nun Excommunicated for Allowing Abortion That Saved Life of Mother Of 4

Can someone explain this to me? A woman 11 weeks pregnant with her 5th child comes into the hospital gravely ill. Docs say that if she carries fetus to term, there is a 100 percent probability that she will die. One big problem - she's in a Catholic Hospital - where clergy demand that she should die with her child rather than abort it - leaving 4 other children motherless.
