24 hours in Nagarkot

Havingplanned to get away from Kathmandu for a weekend, I decided on Nagarkot, a hillstation, as we call it in this part of the world, east of Kathmandu. Maheshand I started off at 11.20 am on Saturday and we were in Nagarkot by 1.30PM. Our friend Chandni had got us bookedinto the Fort Resort hotel.... Sign in to see full entry.

Minus five gear and the hearing impaired

Two days ago I went to shop for Anjali, who lives in Delhi and is going to Latin America and some place which is minus 5 degrees. We were together about two weeks ago when she mentioned her trip and her anxiety about not having the proper gear and being afraid of the cold. AS I was coming to Nepal,... Home away from home

Well, well. Now that I seem to have mastered the art of posting a link to my picasaweb, I am thrilled! No more attaching photo by photo. I wanted to share some photos of my friend Chandni's home and garden. It's so lovely to stay in a home away from home that makes you feel good. I love my room,... Sign in to see full entry.

Vegetable shopping at Noxol Market

As planned, I began my excursion to the vegetable market with Arjun, Chandini’s cook. Only it wasn’t at the crack of dawn. More like 8.30 AM. The day was overcast, due to last night’s rain. I expected little or no traffic, being Sunday. But, I was wrong. The first thing I noticed was children in... Sign in to see full entry.

Kool in Kathmandu

The western sky was pink with scattered grey clouds, lit up by the setting sun. The eastern sky was... Sign in to see full entry.

Sushi!

Yesterday, I made sushi for the first time in my life. It was long overdue. Let me explain. But, for this, I need to go back, to the beginning of the beginning. The first time I had real Japanese food was during my first trip to Japan. In 19981, I travelled with a Canadian film maker, Gail Singer to... Sign in to see full entry.

Inheriting an iPhone

I’m petrified. It’s the same sensation I get every time I have to change my phone. My fear is that I have to learn how to use the new one, all over again. Barely have I mastered the old one, the new challenge arrives. I mean, not that anyone is forcing me to change my phone. It’s a choice I make,... Sign in to see full entry.

A Discontened Summer

I know I am not supposed to be discontent. But, I am. This has been a very difficult summer. In India, and more specifically Delhi - where I live - it begins to get warm around March. By May it gets hot and June and July are HOT. But, approximately around the end of June and the beginning of July,... Sign in to see full entry.
