Unaccustomed Earth

I just finished reading Jhumpa Lahiri's Unaccustomed Earth - a collection of short stories. She is of Indian origin - born in India, lived in the UK and now in the US. A few days ago I wrote that I had bought the book as a gift for a friend who turned 60 last week. I also bought a copy for myself. A... Sign in to see full entry.

Totally Seductive Red-White Lily

Lilies appear every year, announcing spring. Four days ago, walking in the back garden I saw three pots of these lilies in various stages of bloom. As the back yard is being dug up to make room for an entrance to the basement and we couldn't see the blooms, from wehre we are most of the day, I asked... Sign in to see full entry.

Lilies in the Field

Last week when I was in the hills with my sister I came across this lily, which I also saw last year. It's called a Cala Lily and it's absolutely stunning against the green of its leaves and the garden. I hope you enjoy it. I was trying to upload another lily photo but it will have to be the next... Technological challenges and a full weekend

Since my computer was reformatted I cannot upload some rather beautiful pictures I have taken over the last few weeks. I usually do this over photobucket and had to download it again. Once this was done, I followed the procedure I used before. No good. I have been struggling for hours. So, I decided... Sign in to see full entry.

The Procedure

A week ago I had a laser procedure in both my eyes. It was recommended by various experts - opthamologists and vitreo-retinal and uvea specialists. My symptoms were flashes, discomfort and sometimes blurry vision. All these specialists peered into my eyes over the years, with and without atropine,... Sign in to see full entry.

Away from Blogit

Who would have thought I would be away from Blogit for 8 whole days? Well, it turns out I was. The day I had my eye procedure (last Wednesday) my computer started slowing down. My husband's computer had already slowed down and he was using mine. Within 18 hours mine packed up completely. It needed... Sign in to see full entry.

Anticipating a procedure

Tomorrow I am going to have a laser procedure in the eye. I have been putting it off for several years. Now, I will get it done. There was a time when there was a lot of talk about Lasik for a 20-20 vision. I was very keen to get rid of my eye glasses which got in the way of exercise, fogged up in... The Magic of Calendars

I have three calendars on my desk, I discovered. I love calendars. Before the year ends, as October approaches, I start obsessing about what calendars I will have for the upcoming year. Every year I buy a pocket calendar which I keep in my purse. Now I have a cell phone which is very sophisticated... Sign in to see full entry.

Who's seen The Bucket List?

Day before yesterday (March 21) I saw The Bucket List. A film starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman it is funny, poignant and beautiful. I love the dialogue between the characters in the film, the pathos and the humour. Not too many films, at least in India, are made on the subject of death and... Sign in to see full entry.

March 21, an amazingly extra special day

Yesterday was an extra special day. It marked a significant observance for people of five different faiths. Holi in the Hindu tradition, Nauroz for Parsees, Eid for Muslims, Good Friday for Christians and Purim for people of the Jewish faith. The central theme for all faiths is the same - goodness,...
