Jimmy Lee Smith

Jimmy Lee Smith, a lifelong criminal whose role in the kidnapping and killing in 1963 of a police officer inspired Joseph Wambaugh’s true-life crime novel “The Onion Field,” died Friday April 6,2007 in jail.
