Phantoms in Opera Houses

This is a piece I first posted elsewhere... It is about healing others-- troubled people that touch our lives, annoy and take advantage... sometimes hurt and mangle, in their passage... But it is also about the Parts of our Selves that are wrapped around our own deepest hurts and fears... Lurking, whispering, doing their best to distract and seduce... Self-pity... Resentment... Envy... Others, in other masks and guises... They all have pitiable reasons for their existence and their tragic... Sign in to see full entry.

No Such Thing As Innocence... ( Matter of Choice-- part 2)

It is widely accepted by the spiritually-minded that babies and children can see clairvoyantly because they haven't yet had the ability 'shut down.' That children have a sense of who they are that transcends family and physical identity. It has been observed--you can read it in the literature of death and dying--that children do not fear death until they are taught to. That they know they are eternal Selves. I'm not convinced that every child is clairvoyant, or does have that transcendant sense... Sign in to see full entry.

A Matter of Choice (part 1)

It becomes evident that this 'classroom' is all about learning to choose when we consider that practically everything we deal with is offered in dichotomies-- night and day, male and female, happy and sad... The first step is seeing the world in black and white, and then learning to distinguish shades of grey and the subtlest of colors and textures and essences that make each thing unique, and individual... And then it comes around to the recognition that it is all One... Sooner or later, it... Sign in to see full entry.

Response: Golden Mean, I don't see karma as good or evil in itself, but as

another shape of Cause and Effect. It is a principle of spiritual process. You are opposing the idea that victims of the horrors of life-- in this context, a physical process--are in any way to blame for their own trials and tribulations. We are looking at two different levels of cause and effect. I am talking about the powerfulness of what we are as spirit; you are speaking on behalf of the powerlessness of what we are as bodies. You are speaking for Justice, I think, another fascinating topic!... Sign in to see full entry.

"Sorry, but my karma seems to have run over your dogma..."

Karma is another of those words that slips and slides through our understanding in a variety of interpretations. Most generally it seems to be translated as Fate or Doom. To modern ears, Doom is a grim word, implying death and disaster. Originally, though, it meant pretty much the same as Fate: the path ordained for a person by the inteventions of Divine notice. Back then, whenever that was, it didn't sound so terrible or odd to be 'doomed to love and fulfilment.' But maybe the sinister aspect... Sign in to see full entry.

Animal Healing

Sometimes, when an animal is sick, there's a little healing thing that can be done that is sometimes dramatically effective. Animals don't put their intellect in the way of it the way we do, trying to get a good look at it, and figure out what's happening, and how, and is it, really? and so on and on... But it has been part of the human healing kit for a long, long time, under various names. Laying on of hands we've just about all heard of... But in the 1800s, Mesmer called the same procedure... The Souls of Animals

I knew someone once who really thought animals were nothing more than animate plush toys. He treated them like objects to play with, and had no thought at all for their liking or disliking his attentions. He was not a pet person. I have no doubt at all that animals have souls. All right, I believe rocks have souls, too, on their own level. But animals have life and the ability to learn beyond their instincts, some of them, and the capacity to comprehend at least as well as some humans the... Sign in to see full entry.

I want to restate a theme that is present in everything I write here:

There is a physical reality where we live, where we keep our stuff... It is where time moves along a single line from now back into the past, and forward into the future. And it moves one regular increment at a time. Though we don't always experience it that way subjectively, objectively, it is always that way. The Laws of Physics apply here; space has three dimensions, plus time. It is where we focus our conscious identity and attention, and the point from which we make our choices. It is where... Permission

(Continuing the previous topic, and the discussion that it has generated...) There is a basic Rule that applies to this spiritual classroom of ours and that is the Rule of Free Will. It is a spiritual rule, not a physical one. This is a very significant distinction. Free Will is not an unabridgeable right in the physical world: On the levels of society and physical existence, we need curbs on the streets to keep cars flowing where they belong, and not willy-nilly over the countryside, so to... Possession

In previous comments, this topic has come up, and I've been considering what a wide range of phenomena this concept includes. The first thing that springs to my mind is The Exorcist, and then, a biblical parable about an unfortunate herd of pigs. There is a certain emotional reaction of fear and wonder whispering backstage when these images take the spotlight. Then, there is channeling, and a certain feeling of disdain and rejection, based on the rather disdainful way my teachers regarded it,... Sign in to see full entry.
