The thing is, war works.
It works in the short term only, perhaps, but that's enough for most people. The short term can be a long time, long enough for people who only think of their own immediate relief from pain, anxiety, discomfort, their sense of imbalance, injustice... It takes a kind of maturity and wisdom to put aside what it desirable for one's self in favor of what will be better for the world we pass along. People with kids have more of that sense-- sometimes.
