The Short-Sidedness of Bio-Fuels

We are supposed to be weaned away from oil because of its alleged harms to the environment. So then we are supposed to corn-based fuel--that's right, made of the same stuff we used to eat. (Didn't you used to eat Corn Flakes? ) I have seen instances already of people who have bought the program.... Sign in to see full entry.

Ignition Issues and Fake Hollywood Chases

There are many great things about my car, but one of its few faults was particularly irksome this morning. That is that the key is sometimes hard to slot in the correct positiojn in order to turn it. The original key I had for it that I broke one day was noticeably twisted--no doubt from occasional... Sign in to see full entry.

Saving Face for a Senior Moment

When I checked my mail after work today, I saw the two bill payments I had tried to send. I had forgotten to put the stamps on the envelopes. Then I thought of the two sympathy cards I sent away at a larger slotted mailbox. Since I had prepared these mailings at the same time, I probably did not... Sign in to see full entry.

A Strange Feeling About an Auto Loan

Having set the wheels turning earlier, I went ahead today with an auto loan--able at last to do so with the arrival of the title. How briefly I actually have the title myself. As part of the load agreement, the car, of course, becomes collateral. That means the title goes into the hands of the bank.... Sign in to see full entry.

A Cloak of Mystery

I don't know if it's just a writer's sense or a paranoid reaction in today's prying world, but except for the contextual background in some of my writings I have not openly revealed to the Blogit world my full name, my place of residence, my occupation, etc. This brings me to the activity of note... Getting Better Financially Organized--for Taxes' Sake

I have a nest egg, but I also have a financial planner who tends to its details. Financial matters and terminology does not much interest me. This year, though, I have had to scramble about the finances. In times past, my tax documents would invariably have incomplete information, and I would run to... Sign in to see full entry.

On the subject of Time: Daylight Savings and Time Zones

Time and the human perception of time, I may dare say, are two different things. The 24-hour clock is a human convention, and so are time zones. Daylight Savings Time is also different than actual time, even though it is an attempt to get back to time as it is in nature. But time zones are also not... Sign in to see full entry.

16, Not 18, & Other Thoughts About the NFL Lockout

After a prolonged time, even an extension, the NFL owners and the players could not come to an agreement. The 2011 season could be in jeopardy. One of the issues is that the owners want to expand to an 18-game regular season schedule, but the players do not. I side with the players on that point. I... Sign in to see full entry.

On the Slippery Slope of Gossip

When a coworker asked about the "night" I had off, I took that to be quite different from the "day" I took off. I need to be careful here what I share, lest readers also come to imagination-led conclusions. Hey, don't be offended, it's in our nature to gossip--even though we may not like it or like... Choose Your Speed to the Cliff

What I wrote earlier is proving once again to hold true--that the so-called reformers after a major election victory will have that Washington Beltway deer-in-the-headlights-moment and just continue in the same terrible direction. So what is the difference between the Democrats and the Republicans?... Sign in to see full entry.
