I learned a technique to take the sting out of unhappy memories...
Close your eyes and imagine the memory as a painting hanging on the wall. Attach a drain pipe to the bottom of it and drain all the color out of it, leaving black and white image. That is the memory; the color is the emotional energy that has been stuck in it. Do this as long as the memory stings whenever it comes up.
