I think I've posted it here before, but just in case. I grew up with some of the best 'story tellers' in the area. My father was a good storyteller, but he didn't hold a candle to HIS father, my grandfather. It took me several months to realize, when I was a young boy, that my grandpa was "having me on."
He was telling me some outrageous stories that were nothing but stories... but he did it so well that I believed him for the longest time. He used some wonderful 'wizardly' stuff; it was difficult to tell what was true and what was 'fluff.' After I figured him out, I still loved to listen to his stories because of the way he told them.
I started 'telling tales' myself when I wrote a story when I was seven; my teacher, who knew my dad, mentioned it to him, and Dad told her I came from a long line of "storytellers and liars." At first, I took the accusation of being a 'liar' to heart, but I soon realized that a good storyteller needs to be a 'liar' as they write their stories.
Over the years, when my wife was a traveling nurse, I started taking opportunities of our locations. San Francisco, Vegas, LA, Tampa, and Miami all had 'comedy dens,' and I started going to their "newbies" nights, and soon enough I started participating in them. It didn't take long for me to move up from a two-minute gig to a three-minute gig, to the five-minute gigs. I even got paid a few times... but if you listen to a comedian, you are also listening to a storyteller... You are telling your story on stage instead of writing it down.
I enjoyed it and wish I could have stayed a bit longer, but we ended up moving to a city that didn't have a comedy joint... but I got to learn how to deliver a joke, and I learned to use that technique in my writing.

You definitely have an active mind that seems to go in all directions, but it is fun to try to follow without getting lost.
