Perhaps it was asleep and was frightened. Folk used to get scared by owls thinking they were ghosts at night.

It reads like a scene from a movie. It could serve as a prelude to something sinister if it were a noir film or an awakening if it were a romance movie. I could go on but I might drive you insane! Lol

I love all the animal imagery. I was walking on a trail yesterday when I heard and owl screech. It flew so close above my head.
